Digital Notes: Spotify Extends Unlimited Free Listening in U.S. | Audio Arts Industry -- Spotify | Scoop.it
After some confusion about whether it would begin to add restrictions, the streaming-music service announced that it had "extended the honeymoon for unlimited free listening."...

Iris Buckley's insight:

Spotify announced that, after saying they would put restrictions on their music after the first 6 months, they would put an extension on not making people pay. Honestly, I think listeners will be very happy with this idea but at the same time, artists are not going to be as happy due to them not getting exactly what they want.

Spotify gains more listeners and Metallica

Spotify gains more listeners and Metallica | Audio Arts Industry -- Spotify | Scoop.it
(Reuters) - Digital music service Spotify rolled out new features and said it increased the number of active users at a press event that featured a special musical performance by Frank Ocean....
Iris Buckley's insight:

This article talks about how the more music that is being shared, the more that the artists get in return. Even though this streaming music site is being carefully watched, this is a paid for site. Spotify's entry into the U.S. market last Summer and the Facebook Music launch make it one of the biggest streaming music services out there. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek still ponders whether or not streaming music sites should be free or premium services.

Iris Buckley's insight:

Spotify is replacing MTV as an avid music channel because MTV is no longer about music anymore. I agree with this completely. I think spotify is a great media source when it comes to the search for music. Pandora is the only other good source for music and I think Spotify is outdoing Pandora in this industry.
