Data and information from Citrix about mobile trends shows us we’re not the only ones growing increasingly attached to our mobile devices.

Whether it’s a personal, social or business setting, people are using their smartphones in more places and ways than ever before and the increasing speed of smartphones encourages us to rely on them more often. As the data here shows, we share more phone habits than we might have thought.

In the past 5 years social media growth has exploded around the globe and, as platforms such as Twitter and Facebook expand and begin to increasingly mirror and reflect “real life”, they take on many of the problems of the offline world, too.

For example: security. With millions of social media views, updates and registrations taking place literally each and every minute, the potential for identify thieves, hackers and good, old-fashioned burglars to exploit your personal information has never been greater.

Which means it’s solely your responsibility to ensure you’re protecting yourself when using these channels...

This is an opportunity for librarians to  a good opportunity for librarian to reach more audience

Siri Anderson's curator insight, January 26, 2014 2:20 PM

I find it interesting to note parallels and contrasts between use of social networks in f2f environments and online environments.  In some instances the online version works better for those who flounder in person. In some cases people who love the real world interactions disparage the online ones. But for most of us, there seems to be a parallel in our patterns and style it would seem. Where should children "learn" how to do this, or is that lesson beside the point at this time?

Its a shame that we have so much internet identity theft in this digital age. One solution I highly recommend to many of our clients is the use of prepaid debit cards in order to minimize potential loss with like a Walmart, Netspend or Bancorp Prepaid Visa or Mastercard for online purchases and link that even further through a paypal debit card. Responsive Web Design Infographic: Benefits and Pitfalls | Attractum | Scoop.it

People are increasingly using mobile devices like tablets and smartphones to browse the Web. The variety of screen sizes, resolutions, and platforms people use to access webpages has given birth to the rise of responsive Web design, where developers create one single site to function properly across all devices instead of producing multiple dedicated site designs to work with particular screen sizes and platforms.

While responsive Web design can be a great way for developers to ensure that their site is compatible with all devices, implementing it instead of targeted Web designs also comes with certain drawbacks. Here is an overview of the changing climate of Web devices, followed by tips for evaluating whether or not you should implement a responsive design.

Why social media actually works for small business [infographic]

Why social media actually works for small business [infographic] | Attractum | Scoop.it

Social media is, at its best, an extension of the human relationship and an opportunity to look customers in the eye (digitally, that is), listen to them and interact person to person. This is the first time in history that small businesses have had the potential to build a massive fan base without a Fortune 500 budget.

The social Web is changing the way consumers discover and interact with businesses online and off and the rapid emergence of social media as a major marketing channel has left many small businesses trying to understand how to find ways to use it effectively. Refer to this infographic to help develop a strategy that suits your business.

The amount of YouTube videos uploaded has already increased from January 2012's 60 hours per minute to 72. Additionally, over 1.8 million things are liked on Facebook, and 278 thousand bon mots tweeted. Not depicted in the chart: the amount of work that is going undone while all of these items are being viewed.
