NBA playoffs 2014, Pacers vs. Hawks final score: Atlanta shocks Indiana with 101-93 Game 1 victory

NBA playoffs 2014, Pacers vs. Hawks final score: Atlanta shocks Indiana with 101-93 Game 1 victory | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
Jeff Teague had a huge Game 1 and led the Hawks to a shocking win over the top-seeded Pacers in Game 1 in Indiana.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Hawks show to have fight as the Post Season starts. Pero Antic allows the Hawks to clear the paint and let Teague be aggressive. Hawks just need 3 more wins and the Pacers are going to need to fight back to stop this 8 seed from being the 5th ever (8 seed)  to win a 7-game series.

2014 NBA playoffs preview: Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks

2014 NBA playoffs preview: Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
The Atlanta Hawks hope to capitalize on the Indiana Pacers' recent slump but need to steal a game early.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

With the playoffs set everyone has their predictions. Pacers in 6 is a realistic one but the Pacers need to get it together. Seems hard to say about the one seed but 1 seeds have choked in recent years and the Pacers limped into the 1 seed and are pounced for an upset. Here is a breakdown of the matchup.

Updated 2014 NBA Mock Draft

Updated 2014 NBA Mock Draft | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
The 2014 NBA draft picture was shaken up a bit lately due to certain prospects declaring for the draft and others announcing their return to the college ranks...
Matthew Ussery's insight:

With the regular season all but officially over and the Hawks in at the 8 seed lets check out some mock drafts. Tyler Ennis to the Hawks seems odd to me. With a young PG drafted last year I don't see this as an area of immediate need. Who knows though, after we win the title maybe the Hawks will trade Teague.

NBA.com: Turner's Koonin named CEO, part-owner of Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have named Steve Koonin as the organization's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), it was announced today. In his role as CEO, Koonin will oversee all business, financial and strategic operations of the Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena. He will also acquire an equity position within the ownership group, and represent the owners as the head of the organization. A nationally respected entertainment and marketing veteran, Koonin's 28-year track record of working with the National Basketball Association (NBA), along with his marketing expertise and leadership abilities, will help usher in a new era of Atlanta Hawks basketball.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Adding a CEO with experience working with the NBA is good but adding a partial owner based out of Atlanta is always good for keeping a team that is 28th in attendance where they are.

Atlanta Hawks blow out the Pacers

Atlanta Hawks blow out the Pacers | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
The Hawks closed in on a playoff berth with one of their most impressive performances of the season.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

In what was the most impressive win of the season the Hawks dominated the Pacers. Coming out of the gates red hot, while the Pacers couldn't buy a bucket lead to an impressive 33-11 score after 1 quarter. The hawks have won 3/4 and look to be building momentum for what now seems like a for sure playoff birth.

Bulls vs Hawks final score: Atlanta drops 6th straight decision to Chicago, 105-92

Bulls vs Hawks final score: Atlanta drops 6th straight decision to Chicago, 105-92 | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
Despite a flurry of offense in the first quarter, the Atlanta Hawks fell to the Chicago Bulls for the sixth consecutive time by a final score of 105-92.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

6 game losing streak isn't the way to end the season, the team needs a win but I'll take drafting higher to help long term anyway. 1st quarter performance against a great defensive team is always something to build on.

Despite all the adversity the Hawks won't quit and look to make the playoffs in the woeful East. More importantly they have cap room to make moves this offseason if they so desire.

Hawks vs Bobcats: Game Recap – Atlanta Wins 4th Straight, Beats Charlotte 97-83

Hawks vs Bobcats: Game Recap – Atlanta Wins 4th Straight, Beats Charlotte 97-83 | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
When the Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte Bobcats match up, it’s often a tough affair that Atlanta eventually pulls out. Though Charlotte gave it a good run, the Hawks took down the Bobcats like old times, 97-83. The Hawks are now on a season-best four-game winning streak, and are 3-0 against divisional rival Bobcats this […]
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Although my spring break hiatus from posting gas resulted in a 4 game win streak I choose to believe the return of Paul Millsap (avg. 20.3 since returning) is the key to the recent stretch.

Hawks vs Clippers preview: Is this road trip over yet? | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
Atlanta's west coast trip continues Saturday night with a stop in Los Angeles where they will take on the scorching Los Angeles Clippers.

Hawks are on a losing skid and Clippers are on a winning streak but look at the bright sides; the Hawks can't lose by more than the Lakers did Thursday and Hawks are "healthy" by there standards this year.

Lucas played just 8 minutes yesterday but was 4-4 from the field. Kid still has a lot of growing to do but if he can play around the rim will be a very efficient offensive player when he joins the Hawks.

Matthew Ussery's insight:

Although Cauley-Stein ended the season injured his athletic ability is something the Hawks should love in the middle of the draft. Cauley-Stein was great at getting blocks not just down low but because he was athletic enough to make the switch and cover on the pick and roll. An experienced front court will help him develop and if he joins the Hawks the upside is great.

While Lucas might not have the most appealing stat line for an player who will transition to the NBA hopefully in the near future. Anyone who can shoot 70% from the field will be able to find minutes when they come over.

2014 First-Round NBA Mock Draft

2014 First-Round NBA Mock Draft | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
As the top prospects in the world continue to make their decisions regarding their future, excitement for the NBA draft continues to grow...
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Big fan of the idea this Mock draft has, adding Rodney Hood. He comes from a great Duke program where he couldn't have been coached by anyone better this year, his defense is shaky but ATL is a great place to come and develop. Personally it is just nice to see a mock draft without the same generic outlook for the Hawks trying to find the next Josh Smith.

Knicks' playoff hopes are alive because Atlanta Hawks can't get out of their own way

Knicks' playoff hopes are alive because Atlanta Hawks can't get out of their own way | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
The Knicks will waltz — and we mean, waltz — into the playoffs if they keep playing this way and run into teams like the Nets. They won’t even need the help of the Hawks, whether they’re tanking or not.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Knicks are getting it together, at least the best way a team in the East can. Meanwhile the Hawks keep losing. Melo wants it and look for the Knicks to claim the 8 seed which might be better long term for a Hawks team going nowhere.

Matthew Ussery's insight:

K.J. McDaniels is a name I have seen linked to the Hawks in a few mock drafts. Where there is smoke there is usually fire but I'm not sold yet. He clearly has the athleticism to play at the next level but his 3 point% is worrisome. I also don't see the Hawks drafting at 15, however the article notes he isn't a 1st round lock.

Ford: Ennis rises in NBA mock draft 3.0 | Atlanta Hawks News | Scoop.it
Chad Ford offers his third 2014 NBA mock draft, with Kansas big man Joel Embiid going No. 1 and Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis vaulting into the top 10.
Matthew Ussery's insight:

Latest mock draft by Chad Ford has Hawks taking K.J. McDaniels. Im not a big fan of taking twiners based on what they could be but at this point in the draft (17th as predicted) Hawks might be suited for going with a forward with upside rather than a player who is going to step into a bench role and not develop past that.
