Are Content Curators The Power Behind Social Media Influence?

Are Content Curators The Power Behind Social Media Influence? | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

By Neicole Crepeau - http://bit.ly/A63jlf ;

@neicolec

Are you overlooking some of the most powerful influencers on the social web?

Content Curators:

How are you sharing content and influence online?

Content Curators —

People who make a practice of finding content relevant to their friends and followers, and then sharing links to that content.

There is an elite subset of people who proactively seek out and share content. I know, because I’m one of them. I comb through blogs and articles on an almost daily basis, and share what I consider to be the best and most relevant mobile, social media, and online marketing news to my followers on Twitter.

ExactTarget calls these people “megaphones” and says:

“Megaphones want to connect, educate, and share resources and information online with others. These consumers clearly fall into the ‘influencer’ category—meaning they can impact a brand’s bottom line—but Megaphones represent an especially elite group that takes their online interactions very seriously.“

ExactTarget’s research  - http://bit.ly/wxfLMQ, shows that only 7% of online users are megaphones.

Why are these folks important?

Because they are influencers.

5 Pinterest Contests Examined

5 Pinterest Contests Examined | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

This piece was written by Nicole D'Alonzo for socialfresh. I selected it because there are several brands on Pinterest leading the way on experimenting with contests. You can see what they're doing, and maybe you'll get an idea for your company.

Pinterest can be a great place to do a contest, but the author reminds us to check out Terms of Use before launching.

Here are some highlights:

**Types of Contests on Pinterest

**Best Pinboard

Users create a pin board under the contest guidelines and brands select the best one

**Most likes/repins

Contest entrants create pinboards and specific images for users to like and/or repin and entrants win based on the amount of likes/repins they receive

**Sweepstakes /entries

Random winners drawn from a pool on entries. People can enter the sweepstakes by repinning an image and/or following a brand on Pinterest

Still Think Facebook's Not Threatened by Google+? Facebook Now Supports "+" Tagging

Still Think Facebook's Not Threatened by Google+? Facebook Now Supports "+" Tagging | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

By Jesse Stay - http://bit.ly/zIsmh5 ;

@Jesse

As a Google+ user (Author of Google+ For Dummies), and also avid Facebook user (Author of Facebook Application Development For Dummies), I often find myself getting my keys mixed up going back and forth from Google+ to Facebook.

This is particularly frustrating for tagging friends. When Google+ launched, I found myself constantly putting in the "+" button to tag friends on Facebook, only to realize Facebook's form of tagging was the "@" symbol. It appears some time in the recent past Facebook has now adopted the "+" (plus) sign to allow tagging in status updates.

From the start, Google+ supported both formats.

Now, to tag your friends on Facebook, you can either tag them by starting to type with the "@" symbol followed by their name, or starting with the "+" sign followed by their name.

I think it was awfully nice of Facebook to think of us Google+ users as they integrated this.

I have a feeling Facebook is seeing some pressure from the other Google+ users using Facebook and running into the same issue.

Either way, I'm happy to not have to think twice now whenever I use that "+" sign to tag my friends.

The insane rise of the Pinterest copycats… – Simply Zesty - Simply Zesty | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it
Pinterest is cool. We all know that. But some websites are taking their appreciation of Pinterest a little too far and launching what amounts to essentially a copycat service, extending the classic (I think it qualifies as classic?) Pinterest layout to give their service a little extra boost.

Why Mobile Commerce Is On The Rise #Infographic

Why Mobile Commerce Is On The Rise #Infographic | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

By Samantha Murphy - http://bit.ly/xpLWRh ;

@MurphySamanthaJ

About 30% of mobile phone users spend an average of about 27 minutes each day text messaging, using the telephone and video chatting, according to CultureLabel - http://bit.ly/ytZXK5 - who has put together this Infographic highlighting the outlook for the mobile commerce industry.

Looking to expand its own mobile strategy, the company compiled stats to reinforce the need to grow its m-commerce channel. According to findings, 5.9 billion out of the 7 billion people (87%) worldwide already have mobile phones. Smartphone sales are up 63.1% from 2010, and a whopping 488.5 million devices were sold in 2011.

The Infographic also points out that mobile commerce is expected to experience significant growth by 2015 from the six previous years — jumping 99-fold from $1 billion in sales in 2009 to more than $100 billion

"WordPress is the preferred blogging platform for over 35 million bloggers, and this WordPress Tutorial will show you some very interesting (yet uncommon) ways to use WordPress. In fact, with over 12,000 plugins available today, you can make your WordPress site do virtually anything you can imagine (well…. except for maybe cutting your grass)!

"Not only is it dynamic and capable of doing what you want, WordPress plugins do exactly what they are described to do and “plug right in to your WordPress blog”. This means that with simple configurations a world of opportunity is open to even the most basic user. To get your creative juices flowing, we’ve put together a list of our favorite uncommon uses of WordPress."

The one that surprised me was building a membership Website.
