I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. A recent study says that the number one smartphone use is checking the weather.
It might not mean that this is the thing we do most, but I do think that it's something I personally do the most consistently each and every day (maybe even multiple times).
Checking the weather may seem funny, but weather is an important social language. Bit.ly, the link shortener people, did extensive research on the millions of links using their system. They found a consistent 3% dedicated to the weather.
At first that was a surprising stat. Then I thought about it and realized weather is a universal connecting language. When you aren't here discussing MY weather brings us closer. Sharing your weather woes is subtext for the larger challenges any life faces by finds difficult to discuss.
We discuss the weather because we can and it may be the secret sauce to great social media marketing. We are expecting rain tomorrow after a weekend of downpours. What about you?
