The Power of Pure Emotion Drives People to Action

The Power of Pure Emotion Drives People to Action | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

This article is by Mars Dorian for businessgrow this piece is based on John Kearon's talk at a conference about the power of emotion and why you need to make people feel something to get them to do something.

Jan Gordon: My commentary

Know your audience and speak to their listening

This was mentioned in this article by the author who paraphrased

what John Kearon said:

”We are feeling creatures. Content matters so much LESS than you think it does. Do something shocking or exhilarating in your marketing, but don’t be bland. If people feel nothing, they do nothing

Do the best companies make you think or feel? The author suggests feeling is what makes things happen".

Jan Gordon:

Content in any form is an important part of marketing. It's the door opener, the bridge that can lead to comments, relationships, brand advocacy, transactions and other opportunities that might not have otherwise happened. Using emotion that strikes a chord with your audience is very important.

This was a response from Mars Dorian to one of the comments and I absolutely agree with him: (again, know your audience, this might not apply to everyone).

"haha, I think the limits of pushing that emotional zone haven't been pushed yet - because companies as well as solopreneurs tend to hold back on the edgy, but effective stuff".

Here are some highlights that I think apply to content curators/arketers particularly

"PURE emotion is the sole buying decision influencer — because it’s targeting your oldest and most powerful part of the brain – the fight-or-flight REPTILIAN BRAIN".

Here are a few suggestions that caught my attention particularly for content marketers/curators:

Concentrate on the feeling benefit of your products and services

**show pictures, words and/or videos of how people feel after they bought your product or services - What state do you want them to feel?

Write Visual:

**The easier it is to grab your sentences, the more your audience can picture it. If they can "picture" it, they can feel it.

Reddit: A Beginner's Guide

Reddit: A Beginner's Guide | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it
Spend some quality time with Reddit -- you'll find it an essential resource, a self-correcting marketplace of ideas. Get started with our guide.

To the uninitiated, Reddit looks like a mess — text links, comment threads, points, upvotes, downvotes. At best, posts seem contextless — at worst, totally random.

But spend some quality time with “The Front Page of the Internet,” and you’ll find it’s an essential resource, a self-correcting marketplace of ideas that’s nearly impervious to marketers.

Simply put, Reddit is a message board wherein users submit links. What differentiates it from a real-time information network like Twitter is that the stream of content is curated by the community. Items of value are “upvoted,” and those deemed unworthy are “downvoted.” This determines a post’s position on the site, and items that hit the front page are seen by hundreds of thousands of people (consequently, sending boatloads of traffic to the linked website).

The perfect tweet consists of three main parts: your message, a link and blank space. Here's what each section should include:

Message:

Call to action: Tell readers what you want them to do.Hashtags: Include one or two to increase your reach among people who don't follow you.Tone: Use your own voice, but in a professional way.Format: Use a mix of headlines, questions and statistics to drive clicks and retweets.

Link:

Shortened URLs: Bit.ly links earn the most retweets.

Blank space:

Leave room for at least 20 characters at the end of your tweet so retweeters can add comments.

Responsive Web Design: The Ultimate Guide for Online Marketers

Responsive Web Design: The Ultimate Guide for Online Marketers | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

As of February, the smartphone share in the United States has reached nearly 50%. 2012 is FINALLY "the year of mobile" and this means that you need to invest in a mobile user experience. Check your analytics — that mobile traffic share keeps growing!

With all of the hype that responsive web design is getting, what are the biggest implications for marketers and SEOs regarding its fit as the long-term mobile strategy?

First Of All, What is Responsive Web Design?

In a nutshell, responsive web design (RWD) is a technique which uses fluid layouts (which "stretch" to as much screen real estate as possible) in addition to the CSS "@media queries," which apply different style sheets (CSS) based on the current screen size of the device. With responsive design, your website will fit virtually any device with a full browser:

smartphones, iPad + other tablets (both landscape and portrait modes), and even TVs. It doesn’t matter that thr Galaxy Tab’s resolution is different from a Nexus S phone — your site will render beautifully, as long as responsive design was correctly implemented.

Wo Hoo an amazing must-read post [note mg]

The most complete guide you can get for LinkedIn groups without buying my book!

It’s Tuesday again – so time for another blog and #LinkedInChat. This week we are going to look more closely as groups. How to use them to Encourage, Entice and Engage with other LinkedIn members.

My first challenge today is to take my 40 page chapter on Groups and refine it into a few highlights you can use to really explode your group experience!

Group engagement is one of the best ways I know up to start building strategic relationships. The nice thing about a group is that even if you are not connected with another member, you can still send the messages to that member.
