Why Google+ Is a Ghost Town [Infographic]

Why Google+ Is a Ghost Town [Infographic] | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

An infographic details that Google+ has low activity compared to other networks.

There’s a lot of conflicting data out there about Google+. A few studies over the past few months have portrayed the fledgling social network as relatively moribund, but another recent report from Experian Hitwise says visits to the network are growing substantially, hitting 34.9 million for the week ended Aug. 4 compared to 21.9 million visits for the week ended July 21 — a 59% jump in two weeks.

Whether the network is thriving or not, this research from Umpf, a UK-based social media firm, shows that activity on G+ is low compared to other social networks.

The SEO Industry Has Seen Positive Growth in 2013 | Social Media Today

The SEO Industry Has Seen Positive Growth in 2013 | Social Media Today | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

Lately all of the news has been around the death of SEO. It’s all about mobile now, and it’s all about writing for readers and forgetting optimization worries. However, the “death” of SEO seems to have overpowered the small fact that companies are starting to come around to the idea of SEO (even in the midst of its suspected near-death).

According to Bright Local, 40 percent of SEOs handle 11 clients or more, with 23 percent handling 21 or more customers, all higher numbers than last year (check out the graph on the webpage). This leads one to wonder: Is SEO really dying, or is it growing under the radar?

The Content Marketing Explosion & Importance of Reviews [Infographic & Marty Note]

The Content Marketing Explosion & Importance of Reviews [Infographic & Marty Note] | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it
In this infographic by BlueGlass Interactive, you will find a ton of useful data and information about the power of content marketing.

Marty Note
Using this infographic in a presentaiton today. There are three implicaitons hidden inside these numbers including:

* Your Content's 'half-life" is going down.

* More content doesn't work anymore.

* Content must be great to cut through the clutter.

* OR content must we well supported to cut through clutter.

I'm writing up an analysis of whey content marketing is missing an important fulcrum - reviews. "Comments" aren't as engaging as the chance to leave a "review", have those reviews curated and voted upon ("review the reviewer").

Reviews are a game system. Comments can be made into a game system, but making comments convert as well as the immediatley understood reviews AND creating a game system based on comments is harder and a lot to ask.

As an Internet marketer I know it is good to use convention and "reviews" comes with very helpful built in conventions.

Why Content Curation and Crowdsourcing Will Change Everything

Why Content Curation and Crowdsourcing Will Change Everything | AtDotCom Social media | Scoop.it

From the original article by Tom George on his "Internet Billboards".
Here are some interesting excerpts from the post about content curation.
"After having spent the better part of four years curating content from renowned bloggers, journalists and authors as well as building a platform here on Internet Billboards, which has evolved into a wonderful community of content curator’s.

Here is my definition of content curation. A content curator is someone who finds, organizes, presents and shares valuable information (content) in many forms, on a specific topic, in a way that provides special context and or a unique engagement with his or her readers. In actuality when done correctly, over time it positions the curator as an expert in his or her respective field and defines their reputation as a thought leader.

A good curator will mix curation with his or her own original content, to give interpretations for the express purpose of allowing others to form their own conclusions.
...
Why curation and crowdsourcing will and should become more important to you. I will give you ten reasons.
1. There is just too much content;
2. Social Sites Are Full Of Spam;
3. Privacy concerns with big data;
4. Limiting risk and using many minds;
5. Technology must assist us and help us not hinder us;
6. People Will recognize the need to build meaningful relationships;
7. Information will flow freely;
8. Trust and authority will be the new currency;
9. Curation helps you establish relationships with thought leaders;
10. Crowd Sourcing can make things possible..."

The article is discussed with more information. Read full original post here:

William Moeller Marketing & Design's comment, June 12, 6:46 PM
Hi Teresa. Curation creates its own set of challenges, and proper attribution to the content source(s) remains a big one, particularly in short form communication (e.g., Twitter). As a content curator, I strive to acknowledge my sources. But what if my nearest source was another curator, who perhaps shared it from another curator. With limited number of characters allowed, we have no choice but to truncate the value stream, occasionally (and unwittingly) leaving out the original author.
Therese Torris's comment, June 14, 1:19 PM
William, I agree it's not always easy. I still find that some systems are better than others at encouraging attribution. For exemple Scoop.it keeps the link to the original site from which the content was clipped. Thus there is a way to go to the source.
Stephen Dale's curator insight, June 15, 3:29 AM

I liked the definition of Curation from Tome George (author of the piece):

"A content curator is someone who finds, organizes, presents and shares valuable information (content) in many forms, on a specific topic, in a way that provides special context and or a unique engagement with his or her readers. In actuality when done correctly, over time it positions the curator as an expert in his or her respective field and defines their reputation as a thought leader.
