Assisted Dying
Death comes eventually to all of us, and most people want to be allowed to die quietly and easily. Unfortunately the dying process often means a lot of pain and distress to ourselves and those around us. End of life choices for a dignified death should be a right for all.

▶ Let's Talk About Death with Joanna Cook, Will Self and Stephen Cave

Watch as our panel of speakers debate whether it might be a good thing to make an awareness of death a more important part of our lives.

If a fuller life requires a deeper acceptance of death, what stops us facing up to the inevitable? As part of our event series on reconceiving spirituality, Dr Joanna Cook, lecturer in Medical Anthropology at UCL joins writer Will Self and philosopher Stephen Cave to ask: if we could look mortality more squarely in the eye, what effect would it have on our personal and political lives?

The ethics of end of life care | Wright Hassall

The ethics of end of life care | Wright Hassall | Assisted Dying | Scoop.it
A recent legal case regarding resuscitation and a national audit carried out by the Royal College of Physicians in partnership with Marie Curie, have reopened the debate about end of life care for those dying in hospital. In 2013 the Neuberger report into the Liverpool Care Pathway (an initiative to introduce a hospice level of palliative care into hospitals) found that, in too many cases, the framework was not being used appropriately and people in the last stages of life were suffering needlessly.
