Rethinking Assessment

Rethinking Assessment | Assessment - formative and otherwise | Scoop.it

With few exceptions, all the things our children are using to connect and learn outside the classroom -- social media, cell phones, Internet connections -- are banned inside classrooms....let's scrap open-book tests, zoom past open-phone tests asking Googleable questions, and advance to open-network tests that measure not just how well kids answer a question, but also how literate they are at discerning good information from bad and tapping into the experts and networks that can inform those answers.

Tips for Teaching Students to Receive Critical Feedback

I agree that getting meaningful feedback from teachers is important as feedback are not just few words of how well or bad you are doing, feedback can also motivate the student to strive harder for better grades if the feed back is done in a meaningful way. In the future i foresee more teachers giving feedback as more and more teachers are going for courses on how to improve on their teaching skills, with this the students and the teachers can benefit both in their own ways. However, this is not totally fool proof as feedback are only words that try and invoke motivation its the student that makes he decision.

7 Effective Templates For Teacher Feedback - Edudemic

7 Effective Templates For Teacher Feedback - Edudemic | Assessment - formative and otherwise | Scoop.it
Feedback in the classroom is often one-sided: the teacher gives feedback and the student receives it, generally relating to the quality of their work. Depending on the level of the students you teach, you may find yourself subject to student evaluation, but generally that only comes once a semester (at least at the university level), …

Christopher Resetar's curator insight, February 13, 2014 12:00 PM

Like other comments on this scoop, I really like this article, especially items #1 and #2.  I really like those options because they are unconventional options that I still think would provide an appropriate level of challenge for the students as well as provide an alternative form of just a simple pencil and paper exam.  I think option #1 is more feasible for elementary school because it would allow students to work on skills that are more age appropriate like consolidation of information and looking for quality source material.

Ruby Day's curator insight, February 14, 2014 3:45 PM

Sounds like some great ideas to stimulate critical thinking

Audrey's curator insight, March 5, 2014 6:51 PM

All 5 assessment methods involves  students leading the learning. Asking the students questions based on their reading of the topic helps their analytical  skills and allows them to be in charge of their learning.
