Occupational therapists are responsible for providing an easier way to make daily tasks of a human more accessible. There are a wide variety of activities: dressing, brushing your teeth, tieing your shoe, cooking, driving, and ect. Occupational therapists over the years have made these types of daily activities that you cannot avoid much easier.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Understanding OT with the help of Dr. Suess =) This was a project to promote OT. I am an OT student at the University of New England.

This video gives a wide variety of people who need occupational therapy. They need assistance to do every day tasks. This video shows all the types of people who need this help, and how they can regain their strength, physically and emotionally. People who have just injuries do not see occupational therapists, anyone who cannot do the daily tasks to live in their life like these people see therapists for help.

Occupational therapists tend to use manual therapy techniques such as stretching, hand strengthening, excercises, and activities to improve dexterity and caregiver training. Their patients use adaptive equiptment to help them live their daily lives. Tools used would be reachers, dressing aids, dishes and utensil's specialized, and splints. Occupational therapists can even create a home individualized for a patient to continue progressing even when they are at home.

Easter Seals Crossroads can help special needs children in obtaining adaptive equipment to help them to daily tasks they need to use such as wheelchairs, walkers, standers, gait trainers and orthotics. There are many more types of equiptment that people who need different kind of therapy would use to help their individual problem.

OT is a health care field that focuses on helping people who cannot fully do general daily life tasks to be able to perform them again in any way possible. PT helps patients who have had injuries or torn ligaments, regain strength and help them do things like walk again, get up out of bed, ect. OT and PT are very similar focusing on helping, but differentiate on the main goal of healing the patient.
