Watson Island's mostly vacant seaplane port is inching closer to being transformed into a posh urban oasis.

According to the South Florida Business Journal, City of Miami real estate manager Aldo Bustamante said Flagstone Development is finalizing agreements and securing financing for a deal which would finally see a mega-yacht resort calledIsland Gardens begin construction on the island by September.

Island Gardens is slated to encompass the northwestern portion of Watson Island and feature high-rise residences, hotel, shopping, and a marina facility. The mixed-use facility is expected to combine luxury hotel brands Westin and Shangri-La and is estimated to cost over $400 million, based on City of Miami figures.

South Florida pocketbooks on the path to recovery - The Economic Time Machine - MiamiHerald.com | Ask Askowitz! The Good News In Real Estate | Scoop.it

South Florida’s battered pocketbooks are getting closer to recovery.

Personal income figures released Monday show that the average Miami-Dade resident brought in $37,834 last year. That’s 1 percent higher than the previous peak of $37,346 set in 2008, before the full brunt of the recession hit South Florida’s economy.

Miami-Dade’s recovery is the best in the region: Broward remains 2 percent off its previous record, while Monroe County is down 7 percent and Palm Beach is off 10 percent.

Giving Thanks and Getting Deals: Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2012

Giving Thanks and Getting Deals: Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2012 | Ask Askowitz! The Good News In Real Estate | Scoop.it
Savvy Black Friday shoppers already know how to get around the pain of in-store purchases. Twenty seven percent of shoppers plan to avoid crowds on Black Friday and shop online only. Forty one percent will shop online during Cyber Monday (Source: SEO.com). Even through the downturn, there has been across-the-board growth in online holiday shopping. Retailers continue to increase their search-engine ad budgets to drive consumers to their web stores. In 2010, over $1 billion dollars was spent on Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday represents a fantastic trend that benefits both consumers and small consumer product businesses. Needless to say, consumers love the idea of getting their shopping done in less time, with less hassle, and while sitting at home in their pajamas -- 84 percent of Cyber Monday purchases are done at a computer in a home. But the trend also benefits a wide range of small businesses.

Report: Miami among top cities to snag foreclosed homes - Business - MiamiHerald.com

Report: Miami among top cities to snag foreclosed homes - Business - MiamiHerald.com | Ask Askowitz! The Good News In Real Estate | Scoop.it
A new report ranking Miami as No. 12 among the nation’s best places to buy a foreclosure doesn’t account for the keen competition for good buys.
Anthony Askowitz's insight:

Anthony Askowitz, a broker with RE/MAX Advance Realty II in Miami, said the realty of the foreclosure market is more nuanced than such statistics suggest. "The inventory of foreclosures on the market is very low. Its highly competitive right now for a foreclosure or a property put out as a quote 'good deal,' "Askowitz said. "Multiple offers is the norm."

A natural treasure - Home & Garden

A natural treasure - Home & Garden | Ask Askowitz! The Good News In Real Estate | Scoop.it
Celebrating its 50th birthday, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden welcomes visitors across from the bustling Miami Convention Center. Standing at the open metal gates, it’s easy to get a sense of what these 2 ½ acres have to offer.

“This isn’t just a park. It’s a treasure,” says Benoit Jonckheere, who has been horticulturist at the garden for six years.

Here at the entry, take time to look up to the canopy of pink flowers on the towering silk floss tree high above your head. Now look into the garden, where there’s an open sight line to a pond in the middle of a spreading lawn.

Keep looking and you’ll see the far reaches of the garden and a weeping fig with buttressing roots and an oversized sea grape backing up to the historic Collins Canal.

Although the park feels open, there are plenty of twists and curves where you’ll discover the natural beauty this garden has to offer.

First developed as a golf course, the land was designated a city park with gardens in 1962. By the 1980s, it had fallen into disrepair. In 1992, when Hurricane Andrew blew through, the park suffered even further decline.

But in 2011, it underwent a $1.2 million renovation by renowned landscape architect Raymond Jungles. Since then there have been investigations into shady contracting deals involving the garden, but the questionable deals don’t affect what you’ll experience if you visit this park with its grand mix of natives and exotic species.

2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure hits home | Pinecrest

2012 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure hits home | Pinecrest | Ask Askowitz! The Good News In Real Estate | Scoop.it
Brenda Bly is a real estate broker with RE/MAX Advance Realty and a 10-year breast cancer survivor. Her 115-person firm, owned and co-brokered by Pinecrest resident Anthony Askowitz, makes sure they are out in force each year to support Brenda and nearly another dozen agents who are breast cancer survivors.

“It’s a great event and a good cause,” says Askowitz. “My whole family gets involved every year.”

As Brenda Bly passed out fans to participants, she spoke about the event passionately.

“As a survivor, I feel this is something we all need to participate in,” she said. “This year the crowd seems larger, more energized, active, and more pink. I think it’s going to be a great walk! RE/MAX is here because we are one of the largest contributors to the Komen Foundation and we also contribute to the Children’s Miracle Network to support the battle on cancer of all kinds.” As start time grew near, the throngs got more excited. Participants can choose several paths to either walk or run, depending on ability. The 5K walk is most popular, so people can stick together and talk. As I weaved through the walkers, I heard snippets of stories of survival and heartache.

After 45-minutes or so, I spotted Neysa’s “Sisters In Pink” entourage. Neysa, who had walked most of the event, decided to pick up the pace as she neared the finish line. Her family cheered wildly as she entered the special “survivors” path and crossed the finish line where volunteers donned her with a pinkribboned award medal.

Home Prices In Miami Are Going Up! November Housing Report Provided By #1 RE/MAX Broker, Anthony Askowitz

Miami Home Sales, Prices Remain Higher than 2011!

October saw a continuation of the trend through the year, with both home prices and home sales rising above the levels seen one year ago. In the October RE/MAX National Housing report, a survey of MLS data in 52 metropolitan areas, closed transactions increased 17.8% over October 2011. The Median Home Price rose 2.1% higher than the median seen last October, representing the ninth month in a row that prices have been higher than the same month last year. The falling inventory is a significant concern in many markets. The number of homes for sale in October was 28.9% lower than last October. This has caused prices to rise, but also presents a serious challenge for many homebuyers. Multiple offers and some bidding wars have occured in markets, such as Miami's, where inventory is sharply lower.
