As a web developer/designer (amongst other things), I take pride in my craftsmanship and like to sign my work with an ASCII art signature in an HTML comment. I know I’m not the only one, since I was inspired by seeing others do it. So, I had this idea: Wouldn’t it be awesome to scan through a chunk of the Internet and see who else is doing the same thing, and how their signatures look?

Japanese ASCII art images are created from characters within the Shift JIS character set, intended for Japanese usage. So, Japanese ASCII art is usually called Shift JIS, abbreviated to SJIS or AA, meaning ASCII art. You've seen these bizarre images made of text characters. Most of them are inane and amateurish, but some ASII art is absolutely stunning and complex. What exactly is this bizarre art form? And how do people make ASCII art?
Creating and displaying ASCII text art is not difficult. With a few minutes of practice and experimentation, and using CTRL-C / CTRL-V to copy-paste, you should be a beginning ASCII artist within 30 minuntes!
