Message from the Canadian Cancer Society
“All forms of asbestos can cause cancer and no exposure to this substance is safe.
Asbestos is a mineral fiber very durable and inexpensive, mainly used as insulation material and construction.
In Canada, between 1920 and 1990, was used asbestos in the construction of public buildings, homes and schools. Unfortunately, we do not know which buildings can still be found asbestos. If you undertake renovations, you run a risk of exposure to this substance. This is also the case worker called to intervene in an emergency.
In order to protect our families, workers and emergency response personnel, we need to know which buildings contain asbestos. We need a public register.
On November 7, there will be a vote in the House of Commons on a motion to create a public registry of buildings that contain asbestos. The time has come to put us all away from this carcinogen.
Take action and send a message to your MP to ask him to support Motion M-381.”
