Kali & the Kaleidoscope - ZetaTrek, global network invested in the rise of mathematics as an art

Kali & the Kaleidoscope - ZetaTrek, global network invested in the rise of mathematics as an art | Digital MediaArts Numériques | Scoop.it

ZetaTrek (established 19 October, 2011) is a global network invested in the rise of mathematics as an art. We currently have 38 members in 9 countries.

We enable the direct participation of an outsider in the process of mathematical discovery and invention. To promote these concepts, we also organize workshops and contests.

Our goals range from the relatively new ( Riemann Hypothesis* ) to the ancient (an odd perfect number, and the congruent number problem **). Many of these problems have applicability in biology, physics, technology and cosmology***.

Engaging with these problems also introduces elegant mathematics into daily professional concerns. On a regular basis, we will be creating problems with cash rewards for solvers, especially across the Indian subcontinent. The Pingala-I contest is our first step in this direction. By joining us, you actively catalyze a revival of mathematical culture in this fertile region of the globe, but not limited to it.

ZetaTrek is a privately-owned business. Membership - including archives, is transferable like a liquid asset. Please contact the founder for more information.

EAH | European Acoustic Heritage project - discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe

EAH | European Acoustic Heritage project - discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe | Digital MediaArts Numériques | Scoop.it

The European Acoustic Heritage is aimed at discovering and enhancing the soundscapes of Europe, the different sounds that make up the imaginary world and personality of the places and environments as a part of the European common cultural heritage. Through this unity in diversity, the respect for cultural and linguistic diversity and the promotion of a common cultural heritage, as it is proposed by the European Cultural Agenda.

The project will provide bibliographical references about the audible aspects of the cities, recordings of the audible landscape from several places as well as documents that analyse the gathered material. It will also contribute to strengthen and disseminate the common heritage through actions addressed to the widest diffusion and visibility of the results all across Europe.

The production of all these contents will provide an opportunity to consider the sound as a living heritage, which must be preserved and enhanced because of its fragility. Furthermore it will show the importance of the sound of human spaces as a piece of the European culture, such as the sound of the squares, the parks, the human voices and the sound of children playing at the schoolyard, the sound of a street in a rainy day, the sound of an industry area or transport and more human activities.

The European Acoustic Heritage will help to generate experiences in different places throughout Europe that define audible identities and common spaces. Supported by the technology and the communication tools the organisers will disseminate the results reached by the project, as well as the work with other groups and associations.

Connecting ICT & Art across Europe: the FET-ART experience

Connecting ICT & Art across Europe: the FET-ART experience | Digital MediaArts Numériques | Scoop.it

European Commission funded projects may seem one of the most distant things from art and serendipity, but actually they can successfully contemplate the two. It is the case for the just closed Coordination and Support Action FET-ART, which ran from June 2013 to May 2014.

Its aim has been to investigate new research avenues for ICT and Art together through consultation, matchmaking events and pilot projects. FET-ART has been widely known as ICT & Art Connect, because under this name since 2012 the FET (Future and Emerging Technologies) unit makes specific efforts to pave the way to this connection (https://ec.europa.eu/digital-agenda/en/comment/15928#comment-15928).

European funded projects are always carried on by a consortium of partners, which was made in this case of Sigma Orionis (coordinator, http://sigma-orionis.com/), Stromatolite (http://www.stromatolite.com/), Waag Society (http://waag.org/en), Black Cube Collective (http://www.blackcubecollective.org/) and Brunel University (http://www.brunel.ac.uk/), bringing a complementary range of expertise in Art, Technology and interdisciplinary collaboration into the project. ...

Art and the Internet of Things by The Russian Research Center on the Internet of Things

Art and the Internet of Things by The Russian Research Center on the Internet of Things | Digital MediaArts Numériques | Scoop.it

Wireless is increasingly pulling in all kinds of applications, platforms, services and things (rfid) into networks. Many people communicate through mobiles, blackberries, digital organizers, palmtops. Cars become information spaces with navigational systems and consoles like Nintendo DS have wireless capacities and get linux kernels installed. We are witnessing a move towards pervasive computing and disappearing technologies in intelligent clothing (wearables), smart environments (knowing where and who we are), pervasive games, and we will see doors opening for some and closing to others. Mimickry and camouflage will become part of application design.

Ipods and Iphones will show colors and produce sounds corresponding with your surroundings. Council will help to develop theories, concepts, scenarios and prototypes for this wireless world, beyond the product, beyond the individual user, to social and culturally empowering experiences for larger groups of people. As we increasingly live in a world where everything is connected, designing stand alone things for stand alone people is no longer an option. Things are connected, and through these things, people are always part of some group, increasingly more online and in the real world as well, as Yocai Benkler shows in his Wealth of Networks.

This creative venture – an LLP* between a fine artist and sound designer – is a centre for experimentation and collaboration, with sound being central to all works performed, researched or exhibited: as inspiration, conduit for artistic expression, or in its simplest sense, the resulting work.
