DI-EGY Festival 0.1 - 27th March to the 10th April 2013 // #mediaart | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Technology has profoundly changed the way we connect, work and play in Egypt. Technology can even start a revolution?
Social networks, videos, mobile networks, tablets, digital games, computers…most of our lives in Egypt have become consumed in a digital world.

What is specific about the way that we connect to digital media? What has been our progress in digital art production in Egypt? What do we need to learn from international digital arts experience? How we can connect with international artists to open platforms? And most importantly, why do we present this festival now?

We face many questions today, after our revolution. Now is an ideal moment to establish our first Digital arts festival in Egypt: "DI-EGY FEST". From the 27th March to the 10th April 2013, Di-Egy Fest will present different activities for Egyptian and international artists and audience in Cairo.

The child calculates number of steps in the move, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication of small numbers. The game helps to develop understanding of a complete computer program, formed by logical sequences of commands.

This game eliminates intimidation of many kids and their parents, bored by the mention of "computer programming", often associated with visions of geeky guys glued to their computers. c-jump reveals simple programming terms in a cool way!

By moving around the board , entering loops, branching under conditional and switch statements, the players gain physical experience of a complete program. Understanding of the internal action of a computer is essential to understanding what software is. Static program causes dynamic process in the computer. By playing the game, players see this process as physical and spacial motion.

The IATEFL Learning Technologies SIG in association with MEI (Marketing English in Ireland) and the support of ELT Ireland are happy to announce that Digital ELT Ireland 2015 will take place on 31 October – 1 November 2015 in Dublin. This year’s theme is “Technology & Pedagogy in Practice” and call for papers is now open. The focus of the conference is to explore how a growing awareness of the relevance and benefits of using technology for ELT, is working in practice.

The aim is to host practical and theoretical presentations which can help to enhance our classroom experiences and aid our understanding of technology in ELT. How are teachers linking the use of technologies to sound pedagogy? What are the pedagogical considerations involved when training teachers in the use of technology?

mBot: educational robot for #kids - #maker #arduino #robotics #kikstarter | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Two years ago, Makeblock team launched the first Kickstarter project for helping makers construct their dreams; Two years later, now we come back to Kickstarter again for O.R.P.K (ONE ROBOT PER KID), releasing the easiest educational robot for helping kids learn robotics with fun.

Robotics integrate all STEM fields and always make each kid crazy. It can help kids get hands-on experience on mechanics, electronics, control system and computer science.

However, all robots on the market seem to be expensive, hard to assemble, trouble to wire and complex to program. Our goal is to create an affordable, easy-to-use and open source robot for per kid: ONE ROBOT PER KID.

Phrogram - The programming language and toolkit designed for learning... and fun!

Phrogram - The programming language and toolkit designed for learning... and fun! | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

There are hundreds of programming languages and tools, but only a few are truly designed for learning programming. Programs written in Java, C++, Visual Basic have challenging “syntax” and they are usually run inside complex “development environment” products, such as Microsoft Visual Studio or Eclipse – widely used by experienced software programmers, but not all that great for just getting started.

There are also products to create programs that tell a story or show animation, but they focus on “drag-and-drop,” not on writing code – and that’s what makes Phrogram different. It’s built on the idea that programming means knowing how to write source code, which is not as hard as it may look! With a concise syntax and easy-to-use toolset, along with dozens of sample programs, Phrogram is real programming that’s really fun.

The Free Universal Construction Kit for kids - open-source 3D printer

The Free Universal Construction Kit for kids - open-source 3D printer | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Ever wanted to connect your Legos and Tinkertoys together? Now you can — and much more. Announcing the Free Universal Construction Kit: a set of adapters for complete interoperability between 10 popular construction toys.

F.A.T. Lab and Sy-Lab are pleased to present the Free Universal Construction Kit: a matrix of nearly 80 adapter bricks that enable complete interoperability between ten* popular children’s construction toys. By allowing any piece to join to any other, the Kit encourages totally new forms of intercourse between otherwise closed systems—enabling radically hybrid constructive play, the creation of previously impossible designs, and ultimately, more creative opportunities for kids. As with other grassroots interoperability remedies, the Free Universal Construction Kit implements proprietary protocols in order to provide a public service unmet—or unmeetable—by corporate interests.

The Free Universal Construction Kit offers adapters between Lego, Duplo, Fischertechnik, Gears! Gears! Gears!, K’Nex, Krinkles (Bristle Blocks), Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, Zome, and Zoob. Our adapters can be downloaded from Thingiverse.com and other sharing sites as a set of 3D models in .STL format, suitable for reproduction by personal manufacturing devices like the Makerbot (an inexpensive, open-source 3D printer).
