/‘fu:bar/ is an exhibition in a small gallery in Zagreb, Croatia, that aims to gather contemporary glitch artists from all around the globe, and to support all fields of contemporary aesthetics of corrupted data and experimental approaches. By materializing the artworks we aim to affirm glitch aesthetics and help incorporate it into the contemporary art fabric of the Balkans.

The Grey Gallery itself is located at Autonomous Cultural Centre ‘Medika’, an ex-squat, and is focused on presenting both local and international urban subculture-oriented art. Back in 2009 an abandoned pharmaceutical packing factory in Pierottijeva street, a former squat, was legalized by the local government and leased to AKC Attack who’ve been sharing the space with other NGOs and initiatives ever since. This space is inhabited by independent artists and collectives and is offered without any unified context in order to continually develop diversity among programs and projects in the city.

Fred Forest.

Inferno – Créatures hommes-robots - Louis-Philippe Demers & Bill Vorn - 14/04 > 15/04 | Stereolux Nantes

Inferno – Créatures hommes-robots - Louis-Philippe Demers & Bill Vorn - 14/04 > 15/04 | Stereolux Nantes | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

SPAMM of Virtualism // #NetArt exhibition // WEB - NEW YORK - PARIS - MOSCO

SPAMM of Virtualism // #NetArt exhibition // WEB - NEW YORK - PARIS - MOSCO | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

" SPAMM of Virtualism ", Net Art exhibition offers to connect with a webcam interactive scenography these great capitals, Moscow, Paris and New York, around a digital creation on the Internet and the artistic movement of virtualism.

As Art is a source of communication, Art is a communication in itself, this exhibition is a symbol of unity around the sharing tool which is the Internet 2.0

« The virtualism is an artistic movement that defines art forms designed with the help of digital tools. It interprets the notions of gestures and materials in the field of digital: the virtualist work is based on a creative act in power, reflected by the interfaces that reduce the action to simple actions, automated by peripheral tools. »
Encyclopedia, « 100 notions of digital art »
Editions de l’immateriel

The raw material of digital creations being virtual, the acted gesture of creation redefines the creative act in power. Indeed, what is virtual is inherently powerful and the creative gesture in this case has no tangible impact on the material being worked. The gesture in power is what is observable in the digital, the acted gesture on the interface. The virtualism is a reconsideration of the creative act and its plastic relationship to the material.

The virtualism in the post-industrial context

In the 1960s, in the heart of the industrial society, the consumption of goods is the major societal concern. Thus Yves Klein and Pierre Restany develop the new realism theory. By implementing the object of consumption as a subject in itself, this artistic movement is directly related to the context of industrial society. This approach will be extended by the creation of the current sociological art by Fred Forest and the relational art by Nicolas Bourriaud. Thus the history of art is in dialogue with the social context and it should be taken into account this context while writing new theories. The 1980s saw the birth of the concept of post-industrialism, an assumption that the raw material of industrial society would be replaced by a knowledge economy through an exponential growth of tertiary sectors. This theory, rediscovered in the 2000s, is particularly visible in the digitalwhere the information is dominant in a social system. It is in this movement that fits the virtualism, in a society where the digital is spreading in a daily life of virtual reality.

New Museum - 2015 Triennial: Surround Audience - 02/25/15 > 05/24/15

'Surround Audience' – the third New Museum Triennial, curated by Lauren Cornell and Ryan Trecartin – opened at the New Museum, New York, in February 2015.

Dan Fox reports on the highlights of the exhibition.

The Triennial’s predictive, rather than retrospective, model embodies the institution’s thirty-seven-year commitment to exploring the future of culture through the art of today. This third iteration of the Triennial is titled “Surround Audience” and is co-curated by New Museum Curator Lauren Cornell and artist Ryan Trecartin.

“Surround Audience” explores the effects of an increasingly connected world both on our sense of self and identity as well as on art’s form and larger social role. The exhibition looks at our immediate present, a time when culture has become more porous and encompassing and new considerations about art’s role and potential are surfacing. Artists are responding to these evolving conditions in a number of ways, from calculated appropriations to critical interrogations to surreal or poetic statements. ...

TRANSFER | Networked Contemporary Art Gallery - dir. Kelani Nichole | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Today artists live, work and exhibit on the Internet.  They reach a networked global community, often embedding artworks in the everchanging context of streaming images, open data sources, and instant feedback mechanisms that constitute online public space. Their resulting body of work is sometimes best suited for the browser, but also develops beyond the screen into the physical space of the gallery.

TRANSFER operates as a gallery with a spirit of openness – a white cube testing new practices, malleable to accommodate these networked studios, both in curation and development in the contemporary art market. The gallery exists to explore new modes of support for distributed studio practices, and to discover formats for exhibition, collection and appreciation of the art that comes to you through the computer.

Kelani Nichole is an independent curator with a focus in networked culture, and a design strategist working at the intersection of art + technology

Beyond the Interface | 25 April - 21 June 2015 furtherfield.org | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

“The interface is the sense organ of the computer, whereby it becomes part of human culture” Søren Bro Pold

The interface is the boundary across which information is exchanged, causing a transformation in one or both sides of that boundary. We humans are daily adapting to digital systems and devices, which in turn are tuned to handle our culture. This forms the contemporary cybernetic feedback loop.

This exhibition features art that disrupts or bypasses given interfaces. Interfaces have always been a site of control, hidden in plain view: symbolic, social or technological. They facilitate and shape the dialogue that happens between tribes from different religious, scientific or philosophical backgrounds; between components of computer systems; or between machines and living beings.

Alertes, likes, posts, mails... The GLI.TC/H 0P3NR3P0 is an open/public repository of glitch art worx. It's a modular art&&archive project serving multiple goals

About the NetArtizens Project

In the age of social media, our conversations, gossip, discourses, research, decision making, organisational and artistic work are “intertwingled" (to use Ted Nelson’s playful term) with exponentially exploding repositories of media and information. Nowadays, our everyday communications are embedded with the metadata of search querys, hyperlinks, hashtags and usernames. To the extent that we practice these new techniques of "social taxonomy,” how can we use them to examine and dissect our individual and collective net behaviour(s)?

Clearly there is a new language emerging in the global information culture: a written language borrowed from the machine, that is, compressed utterances embedded with taxonomies, links, and metadata. This language is literally exploding with meaning and it has permeated our social relations and artistic production. What is crucial to understand about an emerging language infiltrated by social taxonomies is how we use these mechanisms to aggregate our ideas, concepts, desires, exchanges, collective narratives, and shared histories. ...

Ultra: critically investigate relationships between art, society & digital technologies - #mediaart | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

ULTRA is a cultural project aimed to select and present those artists and those artworks which are able, today, to critically investigate the complex relationships existed between art, society and digital technologies.

Our intent is to take concretely note of subtly pervasive and intimate presence of the technology at all levels of human and daily activity. We would like to promote and support those artistic practices which prove to be aware of this renewed context, anthropologic and cultural . In this way, we propose to constitute – around them and in comparison with them – a humanly and culturally participant community.

ULTRA in the result of the availability of a group of people united by sharing horizons and goals. We aren't benefiting from public funding, but we are happy to accept and trust in the cultural and practical support to individuals and organizations. This is possible in several ways – and with different degrees of effort – participating in events, offering your own suggestions, collecting the artworks of the artists presented.

or-bits.com is an online curatorial project, a platform for the production, display and distribution of commissioned artworks and critical writing.

or-bits.com is devoted to exploring ways we perceive things, promoting practices and dialogues across and beyond media, and to thinking over and working with the empty web page.

or-bits.com presents quarterly web-based group exhibitions accompanied by a rolling blog. Each exhibition originates from the exploration of a word and culminates in a media crossover, in which the editorial and miscellany of artists' works are what remain visible of the process of production. The aim is to suggest links between various cultural areas; creating a system in which the artworks and their idiosyncratic languages, the blog posts and their critical trajectories, stand for themselves while being connected to a centre point.

or-bits.com's mission is to support the production of new works and writing and instigate an exploration of the creative and critical possibilities of the web as language, medium and subject. Its activity spans from web-based exhibitions to related OFFSITE PROJECTS, curatorial collaborations and talks.
