Introducing 8K: The Final Frontier?

Introducing 8K: The Final Frontier? | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

Keeping apace with camera technology is like running a race where the finish line keeps on moving. Just as the next generation of games consoles go on sale boasting the ability to display 4K images (although for the moment only those with the salary of a pro-footballer can afford screens able to make use of all those pixels) Japanese broadcaster NHK has started to film and broadcast events in 8K. NHK are so excited about the technology that they have commissioned filmmakers to make short films showcasing 8K, which were screened at the recent Tokyo International Film Festival.

Is Piracy a Danger to Independent Film?

Is Piracy a Danger to Independent Film? | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

"The fact is: pirate sites don't discriminate based on a movie's budget. As long as they can generate revenue from advertising and credit card payments—while giving away your stolen content for free—pirate site operators have little reason to care if a film starts with an investment of $10,000 or $200 million. Whether you're employed by a major studio or a do-it-yourself creator, if you're involved in the making of TV or film, it's safe to assume that piracy takes a big cut out of your business."

....independent film is not immune to piracy and we can "assume that piracy" is hurting the financial viability of indie film: "We know piracy won't go away altogether, and we won't always agree on the best way to go about disrupting it. But we can agree on a vision for a digital future that better serves audiences and artists alike, and that future depends on reducing piracy."

Marketing to Millennials: Using Snapchat and Tinder

Marketing to Millennials: Using Snapchat and Tinder | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

In today’s increasingly fragmented media world, dozens of TV shows are trying to convince the public to tune in at a certain time everyday. Almost every TV show has a Facebook page and a Twitter account to engage with their audience as well as market their show and characters. Therefore, TV execs need to get more creative with their marketing efforts, especially when it comes to marketing to Millennials. Millennials, a.k.a.Generation Y, are multitasking pros, live through social media and are very tech-savvy. They have high demands of brands and TV shows and producers need to work smarter to keep them hooked and entertained.

“What’s exciting about it, I feel like we’re in 1927 when sound was first being introduced,” The Mission’s director Matthew Gratzner told Gizmodo, “but what you have to realize is that you don’t really have the ability to do coverage. In other words, you’re looking 360 degrees so every time you’re shooting something you have to be aware of someone or something you could see in the background [that shouldn't be there]. There is no ‘behind the camera’.”

5 Ways Transmedia Can Help Scriptwriters

5 Ways Transmedia Can Help Scriptwriters | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

The Internet and social media enable producers and writers to bring characters into the daily or hourly lives of the viewer in exactly the same way that they would interact with their friends. We can now further enhance this real-time experience by running the interactions in sync with the audience’s life. What is critical to the success of this involvement is that it has imitated exactly what the audience expect when they go on the Internet. Typically, Internet users have a lot of distractions, a lot of other activities running side by side. I realised that it is vital to keep your audience communicating back with you, because if you don’t engage with them they’ll quickly get busy with the billion other distractions.
