The Truly Brilliant Design History of the Selfie Stick

The Truly Brilliant Design History of the Selfie Stick | Arts Independent | Scoop.it
I was at the beach a few weeks ago when I witnessed a three-generation family taking a group selfie (just try to make me call it an usie) in the surf using a selfie stick. A few minutes later, an adult couple repeated the scene. And so on. When, I wondered, did this weird little gimmick become a ubiquitous gadget?

Learn DSLR Basics In A First-Person Video Game - CameraSim 3D

Learn DSLR Basics In A First-Person Video Game - CameraSim 3D | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

Photography newbie? CameraSim 3D teaches basics through first-person video gaming.

Thanks to the 3D game engine that the software is based upon, it can simulate not only all the basic DSLR functions including ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and exposure priority mode, but there will also be the option to use a tripod, change white balance, use exposure compensation, and turn the flash on and off. According to CameraSim’s website, the software, which is scheduled to appear in mid-2014, can accurately replicate ISO grain, depth-of-field blur, motion blur, and exposure based on the camera’s settings.

Everyone's Talking About What This Shy Photographer Did. When You See This, You'll Understand Why. | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

A couple of years ago, Kyle Thompson became interested in photography. Unfortunately, his anxiety prevented him from talking to people, so he opted to experiment with self-portraits.

He would spend hours, even days, walking alone through forests and exploring abandoned houses. He’s been to over 50 of them. After taking hundreds of photos, he posted some of his best to Reddit. From there, his life changed forever.

What we experience in real life isn’t enough, so our digital lives are becoming more and more 3D. iOS 7 has parallax, movies want you to feel like you’ve been hit in the face with a satellite, and lots of developers have been trying to make 3D photography easy. Seene for iOS seems like a solid step.

Basically the app works by breaking the object you’re shooting down into points and then calculating depth based on how those points move and distort as you move your phone around while shooting the image.
