Searching for an Effective way to Practise Composition

Searching for an Effective way to Practise Composition | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

Say you wanted to be able to draw more accurately, then the skill you'd need to practice would be your ability to accurately judge shapes in three dimensions and translate them into two dimensions on the picture plane. With building that skill as your goal, you could think up some exercises around it and get down to some regular, focused practice.

If you just draw a lot, over time your drawing will naturally become more accurate. But if you take that skill on its own and practice it regularly, deliberately and with focus, your drawings will become more accurate a lot faster. The greater skill you now have with that particular aspect of drawing and painting will then naturally become a part of everything you do.

In this SxSW set of video interviews captured by Wipster (a collaborative video review and approval service) with some of the "experts" in the online video publishing field, you can hear most of what you already know and expect from the future of video: 4K, real-time editing, effects, 3D, small screens and more.

What instead emerges as the real challenge though, is to realize that no matter what kind of tools and services you use, the difficult part is to have a good story and to learn how to tell it on video.

Tools are great and easy indeed, but they don't make anyone a capable storyteller instantly. This is what we really need to work on.

No need to view all 12+ minutes of the video. Just check the first and the last interview in this clip and you will get the real meat.

Insightful. Informative. 7/10

The Aesop Story Engine is a suite of open-sourced tools and components that empower developers and writers to build feature-rich, interactive, long-form storytelling themes for WordPress. At the heart of ASE are the suite of storytelling components, which are created on the fly while crafting posts within WordPress.

Utilizing these components, writers can can take their work to the next level, and developers can utilize the core storytelling engine to build feature-rich, visually compelling WordPress themes. Here’s a demo theme incorporating these story components.

Want to Write Great Science Fiction? Read Classic Literature

Want to Write Great Science Fiction? Read Classic Literature | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

Worldbuilding is a major challenge for science fiction creators — building a plausible world from scratch involves thinking about lots of variables. But sometimes, to imagine the future, the best way is to look to the past. Classic literature can help you build a world more believably alien than anything you've yet imagined.

Can Visually Creative Storytellers Change The Way We Think?

Can Visually Creative Storytellers Change The Way We Think? | Arts Independent | Scoop.it
A conversation with Gareth Cook, editor of The Best American Infographics

They say a picture is worth a thousand words—maybe even more. And this is not only because visuals can speak to us emotionally in ways words cannot, but also because if done correctly, they can cut through the verbal noise to communicate a complicated idea very clearly and concisely.

Amazon launches Storyteller to turn scripts into storyboards -- automagically

Amazon launches Storyteller to turn scripts into storyboards -- automagically | Arts Independent | Scoop.it

Excerpt from review article by VentureBeat:
"Upload your script, choose some backgrounds, and magically created a professional-looking storyboard of your movie. Or the graphic novel version of your text-based anything.

Amazon Studios released Storyteller today to allow writers and filmmakers to quickly, easily — and cheaply — storyboard their scripts.

Roy Price, Amazon’s director of Studios said: “Storyteller provides a digital backlot, acting troupe, prop department, and assistant editor — everything you need to bring your story to life.”

You start by uploading a script to Amazon Studios — or by playing with one that’s already there. Then simply page through the script paragraph by paragraph. Storyteller will try to match up characters, props, and background with the words in each chunk of text, and it does a surprisingly good job.

But if you don’t like what Storyteller gives, you can choose from its library, or even upload your own custom background or characters. Currently, the software has a library of thousands of props, characters, and backgrounds..."
