Spotify Pays Peanuts to Artists. That’s Not Necessarily a Problem. | artist not getting paid proper wedges | Scoop.it
In June, David Lowery, singer-guitarist of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, posted part of a royalty statement to his blog The Trichordist.
Matt Ward's insight:

I dont think is right for David Lowery to have his song "low" played 1,159,000 times on pandora and he only got paid $16.89.

Pros - The pros of David Lowery having his song played on pandora is that he is getting alot of plays and most likley new fans.

Cons - The cons of David Lawery having his song played on pandora is even tho he is getting his song played so many time on pandora he is barley getting paid any money for it.

An inflatable pig honoring Pink Floyd's 'Animals' album cover. There never seems to be a dull moment for music-streaming service Pandora. Last year, they filed a lawsuit against music publishing agency and artists-rights champion ASCAP.
Matt Ward's insight:

Pink Floyd filed a law suit on pandora which i think is good. Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour were angry for pandora pushing for a special law in Congress to slash musicians’ royalties, and the tactics they are using to trick artists into supporting this unfair cut in pay.
