work at what you do. if you are a gigging artist, gig, if you play an instrument, play it well (within your range of style etc). if you need a manager, get one, if you manage yourself, become a good manager. charisma? that's a tough one - you either have it, or not? oh yes, it helps to be nice, unless you are really brilliant. and lots of others think you are really brilliant.
