Such contextual information significantly enhances touch interaction in a broad range of applications, from conventional touchscreens to unique contexts and materials. For example, in our explorations we add touch and gesture sensitivity to the human body and liquids. We demonstrate the rich capabilities of Touché with five example setups from different application domains and conduct experimental studies that show gesture classification accuracies of 99% are achievable with our technology.

C’est pour cela que d’autres chercheurs, dans le domaine de l’industrie du futur, travaillent sur une autre voie (pas forcément plus accessible pour l’instant) : l’autoassemblage. Derrière cette poursuite de l’autoassemblage, on retrouve le vieux rêve de la nanotechnologie, celui de l’assembleur universel qui pourrait fabriquer n’importe quel objet (ou organisme) à partir des atomes prélevés dans l’environnement. On en est encore loin, et on ne sait même pas si un tel concept “d’assembleur” est compatible avec les lois de la physique. Mais cela n’empêche pas les chercheurs de chercher à construire des modèles d’autoassembleurs moins ambitieux. |

Consumer 3D printers used to have fairly clear price points. Premade printers, like the $1,999 MakerBot Replicator I just reviewed, sold for roughly between $1,500 to $2,500. You could alternatively buy a build-it-yourself kit, like the MakerGear Mosaic 3D printer I built in January, starting around $700. Then a little company in Brooklyn, N.Y., introduced the Solidoodle 2, a preassembled 3D printer starting at $500.
