DOES GRAMMAR MATTER ANY MORE? | Wednesdays with Dr. Joe

But there are other downsides to being an English Professor, chief of which is the sadistic delight people–especially one's former students–take in catching grammatical mistakes you may occasionally make.

The following came from http://wideinfo.org/discover-english-grammar/  and rather seems to defeat the purpose of the article!

Proper grammar is taught when learning English as a 2nd language, in elementary faculties, and even refreshed in collegiate lessons. Numerous books and papers were written on the subject; however grammar specialists also can disagree on what’s technically appropriate. Therefore, preserving your grammar talents contemporary is an ongoing studying process. Use some English tutorial to stay knowledgeable in grammar principles and software

Alison Rostetter's insight:

Does grammar matter?  Only if you can't express yourself clearly.  Odd errors are permitted but should not mpede communication

English Vocabulary Profile

English Vocabulary Profile | Articles re. education | Scoop.it
Welcome to English Profile -- setting industry standards for English language learners. Linked to the Common European Framework for Reference for Languages (CEFR), English Profile will provide a detailed set of Reference Level Descriptions for English language learners.
Alison Rostetter's insight:

The English Vocabulary Profile tells us which words (and which meanings of words), and phrases learners typically know and can use at each level of the CEFR. There are two versions, one in British and one in American English, both searchable within a single CEF level or across levels. In addition, they have audio pronunciation for all entries and are fully searchable by part of speech, grammar, usage, prefix or suffix and topic.

Alison Rostetter's insight:

It's not a very dynamic video but it demonstrates very nicely what any teacher could produce using Powtoon, which is a do-it-yourself presentation platform that has endless possibilities for the IT-interested teacher.  I have tried Powtoon out but my offerings have been nowhere near as professional as this video here, but,  the site and this video  have whet my appetite to keep trying.

If you do a quick search for word cloud, you'll see so many different types. I recommend picking test text & pasting it in each text box to see the result.
Alison Rostetter's insight:

Lots of ideas here.  I tried Taxgedo because I occasionally have trouble loading Wordle (which I very much like).  There are various sites here to experiment with.

Sadly, you cannot do these on Chrome, and they're a bit tricky on Firefox although good old Internet Explorer had no problems here.
