Quiz-Busters Plenary and Revision Quiz from teachers-direct

Quiz-Busters Plenary and Revision Quiz from teachers-direct | Articles re. education | Scoop.it
Teachers Direct is a supply teaching agency providing daily and long term supply primary teachers and secondary teachers to schools and teaching jobs overseas to non-UK teachers.
Alison Rostetter's insight:

This is SUCH fun, and you can really target student vocabulary needs.

Each quiz has twenty questions and you can tailor your Quiz Buster to recent or older vocabulary.  Re-shuffle the board and play again until the students know the words.

Here is one I did for my BEC Vantage business class:

http://www.teachers-direct.co.uk/resources/quiz-busters/quiz-busters-game.aspx?game_id=120929

Try it and you'll all love it!  You need your PC in class and some way of getting the pictures over a beamer and you're away.

Skype - Stereo Mix - YouTube /Play Student CD over Skype

Alison Rostetter's insight:

After hours of asking round and surfing the web I finally discovered how to play a CD recording to a student when teaching via Skype.  Here is one of the videos that helped me on my way.  The thing you need to know first is that you have to 'rip' your CD onto your computer (I used Windows Media Player) and then when you fiddle with your sound settings, it works and you have full control over what is being listened to!

Good luck.  It took me about 10 days to figure it out - perhaps you'll manage in 10 minutes.

Alison Rostetter's insight:

Using the word “grammar”, she said, can conjure off-putting images of an old-fashioned classroom. It makes it sound like a secret you’re not let in on, and has associations of “right” or “wrong”. On the other hand, “understanding” or “knowledge about language” make it sound more positive.   NB: SPaG test is Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation.  Didn't know about that one before!

It was a stormy graduation day in Cambridge on Saturday. Drenched with rain, the students in their gowns looked like penguins emerging from the sea.
Alison Rostetter's insight:

I don't live in Britain any more, but I do try to keep up with life over there and it seems to me that this article is talking a lot of sense.  I went to a Grammar school and I suspect, had I had to attend a comprehensive school I would not be the person I am today.  Grammar school was tough, but we learned and we learned in a very competetive environment that is missing today.
