Warriors put theater boxes in Oracle, will test demand before new arena’s debut - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

Warriors put theater boxes in Oracle, will test demand before new arena’s debut - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | Article #2 | Scoop.it
The Golden State Warriors are building 16 theater boxes at Oracle Arena to fill the need for a smaller suite product and test the market in anticipation of their new San Francisco arena.
Greg Cummings's insight:

I learned from this article that big sports organizations are always adding to their facilities.  But in order expand their facility they have to replace some old things in the facility.  In this case the Golden State Warriors are replacing some of their suites with 16 box theaters.  I find it interesting that these theater boxes could for up to 95 thousands dollars a year.  I selected this article because I thought it was a very good idea of increasing your profit or revenue.  I learned from this article that even though you are getting rid of something that is making you money (the suites) you have potential to make much more money with this new idea.  It shows me that there many different ways to keep the consumers happy.

A&M’s merch boom: More than Manziel - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | Article #2 | Scoop.it
Texas A&M sold a school-record $70 million worth of licensed merchandise during the most recent fiscal year, and not all of it was in the form of Johnny Manziel’s No. 2 football jersey.
Greg Cummings's insight:

From this article I have learned that all of the profit from the merchandise was not all from Johnny Manziel.  But the credit has to be given to the organization and how they promoted the sales of their merchandise.  Not saying Manziel cannot take some credit because he can but he definitely cannot take all of it.  I chose this article because I think Manziel is an unbelievable athlete and I love to watch what he does on and off the field.  This article shows me that promoting is a huge role in the profit from merchandise.  Texas A&M really shot up the rank after johnny football came about.

Growth of youth sports ignites a niche in the travel business - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global | Article #2 | Scoop.it
The youth sports travel industry is worth an estimated $7 billion and is growing by 3 to 5 percent annually, according to the National Association of Sports Commissions, with parents investing thousands of dollars each year for their children to...
Greg Cummings's insight:

I choose this article because it interested me how big of an industry youth travel sports are. I had just always thought that families with kids participating in travel sports would always find their own way of transportation. But this article informed me that there are now agencies that do it for you.  I found it very interesting to see how big of an industry this is.  This will help me in the sport management world because it just widens my ideas of creating a high profit organization.  Also I found this article amusing because I used to always play on youth travel teams and always just traveled separate from my team.
