The Electronic Holy War

The Electronic Holy War | Artificial Intelligence | Scoop.it
It took computers eighty-four years less than predicted to start beating humans at a Chinese board game called Go.
Nathan Wehl's insight:

The proof that AI is in the near future, is in the not so distant past. This article looks at how the game 'GO' was thought to be far too complicated for a computer to win at, and yet here we are 16 years on from when it was said it will take at least one hundred years for a computer to beat a human at the game 'GO'. This again firms that in the next decade AI will be stronger and far more advanced, soon humans will have no chance at beating the computer.

Applying Artificial Intelligence to Nintendo Tetris

RT @bvrry: Applying Artificial Intelligence to Nintendo Tetris http://t.co/uYJTEppCEv
Nathan Wehl's insight:

This example shows in a small way the possibilities of artificial intelligence when applied to achieve a certain goal. This game is found extremely challenging by many people because of how easy it is to make a mistake, but with artificial intelligence that has been programmed correctly, it doesn’t make mistakes. This shows the possibility for this to be implemented in all different areas of society.

As cognitive computing or artificial intelligence grows in capability, what skills should humans acquire?
Nathan Wehl's insight:

Artificial Intelligence that once won the game show jeopardy, could now be used to analyses genetic data. This further shows us that AI could and is the future for our society.

Stunning artificial intelligence at the 2014 InnoRobo Summit | Artificial Intelligence | Scoop.it
The future is alive--almost. See the coolest humanoid robots from the 2014 InnoRobo Summit.
Nathan Wehl's insight:

The race for the control of the artificial intelligence industry is on. Companies are tripping over themselves in the race to be the leading company, and to take control of the industry first. This is evident in the number of different companies pushing to be the first, and the money they are willing to spend to create cheap, highly usable robots with, an artificial intelligence for use in situations that are high risk for humans, who can harm themselves by making a mistake, something AI (artificial intelligence) will never do.

New Techniques from Google and Ray Kurzweil Are Taking Artificial Intelligence to Another Level | MIT Technology Review

New Techniques from Google and Ray Kurzweil Are Taking Artificial Intelligence to Another Level | MIT Technology Review | Artificial Intelligence | Scoop.it
With massive amounts of computational power, machines can now recognize objects and translate speech in real time. Artificial intelligence is finally getting smart. (Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" need to be in!
Nathan Wehl's insight:

It is now becoming quite obvious that artificial intelligence is the way of the future. With the success of Watson and the power of googles supper and quantum computers, it could well be just around the corner. But will it be affordable?

This just in from the future: a TED talk from a computer. (Can a TED talk from artificial intelligence blow your mind? http://t.co/kDuNaUiWuy)
Nathan Wehl's insight:

Can Artificial Intelligence give meaningful discussions? The chances are that yes they can, because they will end up being just an extension of their programmer.
