"You know the cliché: You're out on the town, you're doing drugs, you're drinking, you're running on the walls, you're pissing on the fireplace. It’s a cliché. Often you run into artists who live that life—and at one point, you find out that they're not actually producing that much art. They're living the life of the artist without the work. | the atlantic (read more..)

FontShop Celebrates: Women in Design

FontShop Celebrates: Women in Design | Artdictive Habits : Sustainable Lifestyle | Scoop.it

To mark International Women’s Day (March 8, 2015), FontShop will be celebrating women in design for the whole of this week.

Webgrrl's insight:

Traditionally, the design industry has been very much dominated by men, and whilst the number of female graduates studying design subjects is on the increase, the world of design (and in particular that of type design) is still very much populated by men.

In recognition of the many talented women in the industry, for the next five days FontShop.com will see a female takeover as we turn our focus to women. Featuring foundries, typefaces and Fontlists all by women, we will also be posting daily interviews with female designers and host a type themed Twitter Q&A.

There is a difference: Affiliate Marketing vs. Referral Marketing

There is a difference: Affiliate Marketing vs. Referral Marketing | Artdictive Habits : Sustainable Lifestyle | Scoop.it

Looking at the words ‘affiliate’ and ‘referral’, one would assume that these two forms of marketing are practically similar, but there are striking differences.

Webgrrl's insight:

this excerpt /summary from another article explains it well.

In a referral program, your brand ambassadors are typically your customers. They are already fans of your product, they are educated about the features, and they can speak with first hand experiences. Affiliates on the other hand, tend to be motivated financially and lack first-hand experience with the product. Affiliates are primarily self-interested. (via http://snip.ly/bljW)

Are you a 'business card bomber'? Seven Networking mistakes to avoid

Are you a 'business card bomber'? Seven Networking mistakes to avoid | Artdictive Habits : Sustainable Lifestyle | Scoop.it

Unfortunately these types can be found at just about every networking event: over-eager networkers who thrust their business card at you and launch into a monologue about their company.

Business coach Melanie Miller calls it "biz card bombing" and it's her biggest networking gripe.

Webgrrl's insight:

"There is zero connection, they ask no questions and have little to no interest in anyone else's business," she says.
A better way to get your message across is to establish a more meaningful connection with a small number of people at the event, says Miller.

"A great lesson I learned years ago was to take no more than three business cards to an event," she says.
"Seek out the three people you most would like to form a relationship with and to follow up after the event. It worked well for me."
