Kant’s Utopian Daydream

Kant’s Utopian Daydream | Art meets Technology | Scoop.it

I am currently reading a monster of a book. At 802 pages, Steven Pinker’s Better Angels of Our Nature, leaves even a voracious reader like myself a little winded. Pinker’s argument is that the world has become less and less violent over time, so much so that we now live in what is the most peaceful period of human history ever.

12 Stunning Examples of Mobile Phones as Art | Mobile Phone Reviews

12 Stunning Examples of Mobile Phones as Art | Mobile Phone Reviews | Art meets Technology | Scoop.it

We think of our mobile phones as tools. They are products designed to enhance our communication as well as to entertain us with their games and other fun features. They’re functional and sometimes they’re fun … but could they also be a form of art? A number of artists around the globe have certainly thought so. They have created photography, sculptures and mixed media collages with the mobile phone as the center of the piece. Take a look at the following 12 images and see if they get you thinking about your phone in a new kind of light:

MicroOLED"

The highest density microdisplay with the lowest power consumption

Excellent picture quality is an essential requirement that cannot be compromised. MicroOLED has successfully met the challenge of achieving a very small pixel with good color and grey level rendition, along with maximum brightness.

Quotidian and the Twitter timeline | Quotidian | Art meets Technology | Scoop.it

Check out the Twitter timeline video...

Alistair Parker's insight:

from website - What is Quotidian? Quotidian is a new way to visualize time and events. Traditional timelines are limited to displaying events marked along a line. Quotidian displays events in a three dimensional space that can be scaled in all directions to show vast amounts of information.
Like a web browser, Quotidian is a program that you download and install on your desktop or laptop.
Quotidian works with your Web browser to provide time indexes for information on the Web. It allows Web pages to link to events in timelines. Quotidian has two parts: a Viewer to display timelines of events and an Editor to construct timelines.
Quotidian events can be displayed with sound, images, video, and popup text. An event's data can be extended with text, citations, and geographical coordinates.
In the future Quotidian will be available on smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.

Digital Light Field Photography PhD Thesis pdf

Alistair Parker's insight:

This dissertation introduces a new approach to everyday photography, which solves the longstanding problems related to focusing images accurately. he root of these problems is missing information. It turns out that conventional photographs tell us rather little about the
light passing through the lens. In particular, they do not record the amount of light traveling along individual rays that contribute to the image. hey tell us only the sum total of light
rays striking each point in the image. To make an analogy with a music-recording studio,
taking a conventional photograph is like recording all the musicians playing together, rather
than recording each instrument on a separate audio track.

Alistair Parker's insight:

from the web...A little visual treat for you. It is by no means new on the web (see the links at the end of this post) but it is (sort of) new to me and I thought I’d share it with you. I spotted this in our science laboratory at college a while ago and was recently compelled to go and get it for reference for a student project. I also took the opportunity of getting a large high-resolution image too. It is a scientific wall chart for school and college use from (at a guess) the late 1940′s/early 1950′s, measures 93cm (36.5″) high x 48cm (19″) wide and is canvas backed:

Alistair Parker's insight:

Born in Bergen, Norway, Christopher Conte was raised and currently lives in New York. After earning a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art (BFA) from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, he began working in the prosthetics field making artificial limbs for amputees which he did for 16 years as a Certified Prosthetist.

Throughout his time in the field, Chris worked in obscurity creating biomechanical sculptures which reflected his love for biomechanics, anatomy and robotics. In June 2008, he left the field to begin his career as a full-time artist.
