The Fat Monkey

The Fat Monkey | Art is where you see it | Scoop.it

How about a guessing game? We have already helped: this is "the fat monkey statue". You just have to guess what it is made of. Try here: http://ss-abstractions.blogspot.pt/search?q=monkey

Or keep on reading...

The giant Fat Monkey sculpture was created by artist Florentijn Hofman and is part of the “Obeastitas” series designed for the Pixelshow Congress 2010 Sao Paulo, Brazil. It was made out of 10,000 flip flops.

“Capturing Resonance” art installation by sculptor Soo Sunny Park and composer Spencer Topel. Cordova Museum

This chain-link fencing was made by inserting thousands of iridescent acrylic Plexiglas squares into the chain link cells.

It’s a “sprawling, undulating form that transmits, reflects, and refracts both the natural and artificial light into the gallery” (Gwarling).

schmidt hammer lassen architects: university of aberdeen new library | Art is where you see it | Scoop.it
Paula Silva's insight:

The University of Aberdeen New Library in Scotland was officially opened on September 24th 2012. It replaced the University’s former library from 1965.

The 15,500 m⊃2; new place provides a 21st century learning and research environment for students, university staff, visitors and the public. The heart of the library is a spiralling atrium connecting all eight storeys like a dynamic vortex. Its façade shimmers during the day and glows softly at night, creating a luminous landmark.

Architecture created an academic library for science and research and also a meeting place to engage the local community.

Geometric Paper Art by Matthew Shlian

Matthew Shlian is an artist and an engineer. His work is connected to print media, book arts, and commercial design.

His is how he talks about his work: “In my studio I am a collaborator, explorer and inventor. I begin with a system of folding and at a particular moment the material takes over. Guided by wonder, my work is made because I cannot visualize its final realization; in this way I come to understanding through curiosity.”

Turning Transmission Towers into Giant People

Turning Transmission Towers into Giant People | Art is where you see it | Scoop.it

«Power to the people! Giant transmission tower people that is… We can all agree that transmission towers (that’s an electricity pylon or ironman for you European and Aussie folk) are very necessary yet completely unsightly. These suspension towers dot our landscapes, typically soaring 15-55 meters (49 – 180 ft) high.
If we have to live with them, why not turn them into something both functional and artistic?
The concept, dubbed ‘The Land of Giants‘, sought to transform mundane transmission towers into statues on the Icelandic landscape by making only small alterations to existing pylon design.»

P.S. for PostSecret

P.S. for PostSecret | Art is where you see it | Scoop.it

Everybody has secrets. Some are too heavy to keep to oneself. If you can no longer stand the burden of a secret, why not sharing it and still make it a secret? That’s possible and you can do it with art at PostSecret. Besides, from time to time reading other people’s secrets can be a reassuring action.

PostSecret (http://www.postsecret.com/) is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Selected secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website, or used for PostSecret's books or museum exhibits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostSecret).
