Cornelia Ann Parker: "Cold, Dark Matter"

Cornelia Ann Parker: "Cold, Dark Matter" | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Cornelia Parker is an English sculptor and installation artist. She makes site-specific work, and is best known for large-scale installations such as Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View (1991), where she had a garden shed blown up by the British Army and suspended the fragments as if suspending the explosion process in time. In the centre was a light which cast the shadows of the wood dramatically on the walls of the room.

Arne Quinze: "Cityscape"

Arne Quinze: "Cityscape" | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Cityscape by Arne Quinze in Brussels, 2007

CityScape is a colossal fortress of tangled wood hovering in the heart of Brussels reflecting a frozen moment in time gesturing the increasingly influential city of Brussel within Europe’s capital. The project was funded by MINI for to coincide with the world premiere of the new MINI Clubman Car, which is pretty sweet, though the back reminds me of a refrigerator nostalgically.

CityScape is the vision of designer Arne Quinze who directs the fast paced multidisciplinary firm Quinze&Milan.

Jorge Mayet

Jorge Mayet | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Jorge Mayet, at Horrach Moya Gallery, Palma de Mallorca

Jorge Mayet is a Cuban artist who exhibits mainly in Spain. His job is to make sculptures of trees plants or natural objects, in very small size, a few centimeters.

Objects made of fabric, acrylic, and paper copies are not consistent with reality. Jorge likes to think of dispossessing them of trees or ground. The report is particularly elegant.

Miguel Chevalier: Second-Nature

Miguel Chevalier: Second-Nature | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Miguel Chevalier and Charles Bove: "Second-Nature", Place d'Arvieux, Marseille, 2010

Second-Nature is a work that combines sustainable real and virtual. This work consists of a sculpture 18 feet high orange color, recalling the shape of a shell or a large sailing ship. From this sculpture, strong signal in the urban space is projected nightly on a portion of the front of the docks, a new virtual garden generative monumental (28 mx 14 m), inspired by Mediterranean flora (cacti, succulents , palm trees?). This virtual garden evolves and becomes infinite as the seasons.
Virtual plants are each autonomous. They arise randomly, bloom and die according to their "morphogenetic code".

Order made under the Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture

Wela: "The Whisperers"

Wela: "The Whisperers" | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Wela (Elisabeth Wierzbicka) - permanent interactive installation "The Whisperers", the Copernicus Science Centre, Dicovery Parc, Warsaw, 2011

Installation "The Whisperers" consists of 16 stainless steel columns put in the middle of the park of discovery. The columns are equipped with sensors and speakers in order to detect visitors and distribute natural sounds such as the whisper of a stream, rain, wind, volcano, etc. People can do real-time sound spatialization on the type of sound and played on the sound effects.
The visual and sound installation, compared to contemporary organs, symbolizes a virtual-real time in which we live and transports the viewer to the fourth more spiritual dimension.
The installation also shows the paradox of contemporary man desire to approach to nature by artificial means.
