Sergei Tschoban & Sergey Kuznetso: "architect Eye"

Sergei Tschoban & Sergey Kuznetso: "architect Eye" | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

The "architect Eye": a high-tech sculpture to reflect on the legacy of heritage. This installation designed by the Russian Sergei Tschoban & Sergey Kuznetso, is exposed to the "Università Statale" Milan within the framework of the event "Internide". The theme of this year's Expo 2012 is: inheritance.

This stainless steel sphere, completely smooth and reflective has a system of LEDs to create an image of an eyeball. The color of the iris and pupil changes increases and decreases in size, looks to the sky as well as to visitors and the ground. A concept that combines the function of the eye with the value of intellectual thinking, future-oriented.

Inside the eye there are pictures of monuments of Russian avant-garde, which are now abandoned: a strong message the need to preserve our history and heritage. As for the reflecting effect of the steel sphere reproduced and distorts the image of the courtyard of the 18th century, to symbolize the extraordinary architectural forms of the past.

Cagna Illumiations: Cathedral Art Installation

Cagna Illumiations: Cathedral Art Installation | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Created by Cagna Illumiations, the light cathedral made from 55,000 LEDs, for the 2012 Ghent Light Festival is one of the most beautiful light displays you’ll ever see.

Designed as a symbolic entrance to the Ghent Light Festival, the colorful cathedral imagined by Italian company Luminarie De Cagna stole the show at this year’s (2012) event. The gigantic colonnade was adorned with around 55,000 colorful LED bulbs that shine so bright you’d think they consume enough electricity to power a small town, but in reality, the entire installation consumes only 20 Kwatt/h. Inspired by Romanesque and Renaissance architecture, the LED cathedral towered 28 meters high.

The works of Artist John Isaacs

The works of Artist John Isaacs | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

There's nothing subtle about the artworks of John Isaacs. While some artists would like to make pretty pictures and beautify the world with their expression, John's work comments critically on how screwed up the world has become and demands attention. Every piece is a morally critical statement on the way we choose to live our lives as a species in this modern world. His hideously confronting executions can't help but make you think and riddle you with guilt on what we have become... It's like being bludgeoned about the head with our fast food guzzling, consumer driven, resource eating, air polluting, Prozac popping ways.

Zaha Hadid: Twirl

Zaha Hadid: Twirl | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

For Milan's Design Week (2011), celebrated Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid created a vortex-like three-dimensional structure in the 16th-century setting of Milan's State University. Called Twirl, it was made for Interni magazine's Mutant Architecture and Design event as as a contemporary study on courtyard architecture. Interni Magazine just released this video where Hadid talks about installation art and what she hoped to accomplish with this daring (and temporary) piece.

Yan Peiming: 'Landscape of Childhood'

Yan Peiming: 'Landscape of Childhood' | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

Art work 'Landscape of Childhood' by Chinese artist Yan Peiming, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, 2011

Thirty-four flags, arranged in rows, are attached to poles hanging upside down from the ceiling of the exhibition hall. These transparent-painted flags are visible from either side, creating a splendid silver scene.

These "floating paintings" are an original concept from Yan, and has portraits of sick children and orphans painted on the flags. Roaring winds produced by air-blowers make the flags billow and the images symbolically present the fate of these unfortunate children.

Mathilde Roussel: Lifes of Grass

Mathilde Roussel: Lifes of Grass | Art Installations, Sculpture, Contemporary Art | Scoop.it

French artist Mathilde Roussel created these amazing grass sculptural installations entitled Lifes of Grass.

"The natural world, ingested as food becomes a component of human being. Through these anthropomorphic and organic sculptures made of soil and wheat grass seeds, I strive to show that food, it’s origin, it’s transport, has an impact on us beyond it’s taste. The power inside it affects every organ of our body. Observing nature and being aware of what and how we eat makes us more sensitive to food cycles in the world – of abundance, of famine – and allows us to be physically, intellectually and spiritually connected to a global reality."

Exhibited at the 2010 Crossing the Line FIAF Festival at Invisible Dog Gallery, Brooklyn, NY
