6 YouTube lessons for building better instructional videos

6 YouTube lessons for building better instructional videos | Art Education | Scoop.it

With the rise of the blended learning model of education, video is becoming an increasingly important medium for instruction. The essential components of blended learning - such as flipped classrooms, MOOCs and “Bring Your Own Device” programs - are facilitated by video instruction to ensure the personalization and flexibility of a digitized education system.

Lessons for developing instructional videos.

Becky Mowat's comment, September 23, 2013 8:27 AM
Yes it is so true- be concise, pique curiosity, and use authentic video. Real world settings are so important when teaching L2 learners. A picture still is worth a 1000 words, so just think how much time we save "getting the message across" using brief videos to introduce or define or explain lesson topics.
Becky Mowat's curator insight, September 23, 2013 8:34 AM

I have been using videos creating L2 lessons for a long time to introduce, define and explain topics, also to pique curiosity to learn more... This article  clearly states what attributes a good learning/teaching video should have: brevity, piques curiosity, interesting graphics, real world setting. As educators we can understand why these qualities add value to video content in lessons. For L2 learners I especially like the way LingleOnline uses close-captioned video in many languages to meet the needs of its learners.

Too often the iPad is written off as purely a device for a consuming content created by someone else. Here are some easy ways that even the youngest children can create their own content using an iPad (I particularly love the iPad Spy idea!).

The Top 50 Apps for Kids: Our favorite picks for education, music, art, and more! at Babble

The Top 50 Apps for Kids: Our favorite picks for education, music, art, and more! at Babble | Art Education | Scoop.it

"For Babble's annual roundup of the 50 best apps for kids, we looked at some basic criteria that you and your family might also consider before downloading an app. Every app we tested had to have received an age-appropriate rating ("4+" in Apple's case; "Everyone" in Google's). We also considered whether the app allowed parents to participate in, or at least oversee, whatever their kids were doing onscreen. In addition, even if the apps were designed to do nothing more than keep kids busy while you're in line at the store, there had to be some positive or educational element to them."

What I like about this idea is the centrality of learning as opposed to the centrality of the device. We've discovered that sharing a device have far-reaching and positive possibilities for networking, interaction, teamwork and collaboration in the formal learning environment. OLPC is an example of a notion that goes the other way - individualism, not to mention, the complexities when trying to enable young learners to focus.
