2015 ARARTE: Process and Product

Exploring the Balance Between Art and Craft in the Classroom

What should be in the foundation of techniques that we teach our students? How can objectives function effectively within a process-based model of education? When do we push our students to experiment, or insist that they first master any given media? How do we ensure that students explore laterally and freely through process, while still producing work that can be appraised in a standardized assessment?

Join us from September 11-13, 2015 to explore ideas, share experiences and debate personal approaches and philosophy.

The Fear of Art, 32nd Social Research Conference

The Fear of Art, 32nd Social Research Conference | art education | Scoop.it

The Center for Public Scholarship presents a public conference on The Fear of Art. Artists are imprisoned and exiled. Art continues to be banned and destroyed. This is evidence of the power of images to unsettle, to speak truth to power, to question our cherished cultural norms and our ideas about what is sacred. Join artists, scholars, and museum directors to discuss the power of art and the importance of advocating for art, artists, and freedom of expression. Ai Weiwei will give the keynote address via a video he is creating for the conference that addresses "The Censorship of Artists: Artists in Prison, Artists in Exile."

Arts Engagement Focus–The James Irvine Foundation

An Irvine Research Series
The arts provide a distinct, powerful contribution to a vibrant, inclusive and compassionate society. To create and sustain this value for all in California, arts organizations must be relevant amid changing demographics.

Irvine’s Arts program supports organizations and initiatives that promote engagement in the arts for all Californians. We also commission research that deepens our understanding of effective arts engagement practices. Toward this end, we present this evolving research series intended to help open timely conversations within and among arts organizations. The research uncovers valuable, practical information that can help arts organizations of all sizes and types address key questions relevant to our Arts program strategy.
