eCloud is a dynamic sculpture inspired by the volume and behavior of an idealized cloud. Clouds are ephemeral and in perpetual transformation, their abstract shapes are constantly teasing the mind of the observer to ’see’ and interpret. Clouds focus our attention to the sky and connect us to our fascination with flying.

Vortical Filament draws its inspiration from a number of historical sources. The photographic series: Geometrie Experimental by the early scientific photographer Etienne Jules Marey, German physicist Franz Melde’s famed experimental device to demonstrate standing waves on a string, and the lost tradition of the Baroque Tornitori (the craft of turning).

Voice Array - Subsculpture 13 As a participant speaks into an intercom, his or her voice is automatically translated into flashes of light and then the unique blinking pattern is stored as a loop in the first light of the array. Each new recording pushes all previous recordings one position down and gradually one can hear the cumulative sound of the 288 previous recordings. The voice that was pushed out of the array can then be heard by itself. twitter @errafael

"As part of its ongoing commitment to culture, the Faena Group is proud to announce the 2012 Faena Prize for the Arts in order to promote artistic experimentation, foster the connections between the expressions of different artistic disciplines and explore all of the possible combinations of art, technology and design to push the borders of art. The competition is open to artists across the world and will award a grant of 25,000 USD to the winner as well as up to 50,000 USD to finance the production of a site-specific project that will be exhibited at the Faena Arts Center in Buenos Aires in mid-2013. ZERO1 and our community partners are sponsoring a series of calls for participation in the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial, Seeking Silicon Valley. Proposals related to activating underutilized spaces in downtown San Jose’s SoFA District can be submitted by any artist through ArtHERE, a community website and open call platform that matches art proposals with empty spaces. The ZERO1 Emerging Artist Network is a series of calls for California-based emerging artists for projects to be featured in the weekend-long outdoor exhibition during the opening weekend of the ZERO1 Biennial. Artists chosen to receive micro-grants will be invited to participate in a weekend of events dedicated to the development of this new program.

Morphic Resonance is a series of performative video installations by the duo, Lumiaks. Sofi Hemon builds organic structures of indigenous fibers as well as recycled materials. Hemon’s installations have been deeply inspired by the Amazon after researching indigenous tribes and spending numerous art residencies in Brazil. In real time, Eng maps multiple video channels of drawings and video loops onto the structures. As Hemon constantly changes the structures, Angie Eng captures on camera close ups of her weaving, sculpting and composing in real-time. Like kinetic sculpture, the installation is in constant movement through time and space by the intervening performers and visitors.
