Cecilia Levy

Cecilia Levy | Art-Arte-Cultura | Scoop.it
Swedish artist Cecilia Levy creates cups, saucers, bowls, plates and saucers out of paper, turning delicate 2D materials into layered 3D sculptures. Although she often uses books from the beginning of the last century, her choices are not narrow as she has also utilized Spiderman comics for an entire series. To create each work, she takes apart the books, magazines, and comics, tearing the pages and pasting small pieces of them back together. Levy explains her works are, “eggshell thin, yet remarkably steady. The story lives on, but in a different shape.” Cecilia Levy’s background is in graphic design and bookbinding, but began to experiment with dissecting books to produce different shapes in 2009. Since 2013 Levy has worked full time as a paper artist, exhibiting her work in both Sweden and abroad.

selcukk

Turkish artist Selçuk Yılmaz has created an exceptional lion sculpture from almost 4,000 pieces of scrap metal. Titled Aslan (Turkish for Lion), the sculpture took 10 months to complete and weighs roughly 550 pounds (250kg). Selçuk hand-cut and hammered every piece by himself, and metal-work is not easy. “It needs  patience and we have to know pain,”

Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of media, including painting, collage, sculpture, performance art and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colors, repetition and pattern. Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes

Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes | Art-Arte-Cultura | Scoop.it

Charleville-Mézières, world capital of the Puppet theater. Until Sunday, September 29th, 150 companies come from the whole world occur with this year a guest of honor Polichinelle.

Polichinelle is with Guignol the most symbolic character of the puppet theater:  Born in 16th century in Italy in the region of Naples, Pulcinella ( its real name) is a hunchbacked grotesque character and in the prominent stomach. A misleading appearance because behind his jokes, Polichinelle is an anarchist always quick to laugh at the powerful.

Fernando Botero

Fernando Botero | Art-Arte-Cultura | Scoop.it

Fernando Botero's distinctive style of smooth inflated shapes with unexpected shifts in scale is today instantly recognizable. It reflects the artist's constant search to give volume presence and reality. The parameters of proportion in his world are innovative and almost always surprising. Appropriating themes from all of art history-- from the Middle Ages, the Italian quattrocento, and Latin American colonial art to the modern trends of the 20th century--Botero transforms them to his own particular style.

Born in 1932 in Medellin, Colombia, Botero became interested in painting at an early age. His artistic precocity was evident in an illustrated article he contributed to the Medellin newspaper El Colombiano when he was seventeen. Titled Picasso and the Nonconformity of Art it revealed his avant-garde thinking about modern art. Botero moved to Bogotá in 1951 and held his first one-man exhibition there at the Leo Matiz Gallery. The following year, at the age of twenty, he was awarded a Second Prize at the National Salon in Bogota.

SAMARABALOUF

Samarabalouf is a group of acoustic rock gipsy based in 2000, native of the North of France. The name of Samarabalouf means " crazy ball (Ball ouf) on the Somme " (Samara being the antique name of the Somme).

At first sight, and in view of their forming, we could consider Samarabalouf as a group of jazz gipsy. Nevertheless, even if they borrow gaily from this musical kind, their style is closer of the French song, but without words, or the acoustic rock, that of the swing.

The rhythms rocks are very present, and although it is about acoustic music with tones gypsy and of Central Europe, it breaks the tempo swing.

Kevin Francis Gray

Kevin Francis Gray | Art-Arte-Cultura | Scoop.it

Kevin Francis Gray’s neoclassicist-inspired sculptures are beautifully minimalist. Most of his work is created with leather, bronze, marble or fibreglass resin, depicting a stunning color palette of white, black, grey, brown, and gold. His subject is the human form and much of his work features shrouded figures. Gray attends to the detail and subtlety of the drapery that contain his figures, sometimes with a shocking element. His work exudes a familiarity and universality that is at once haunting and captivating.  His work recently appeared in 2012′s Snow White and the Huntsman as a darker version of the mirror man. Gray was born in Northern Ireland and currently lives in London
