Light Sculptures by Diet Wiegman

Light Sculptures by Diet Wiegman | Art [Ars] | Scoop.it

Diet Wiegman creates a bit of different sculptures by arranging piles of rubbish which, when lit in a special way, result in producing a perfect shadow of Michael Jackson, Michelangelo’s David or other persons and objects on the wall.

Leah Broon's insight:

He is working with this unique art form since he finished his studies in 1965. Wiegman received international recognition for his installations which has been copied by others throughout the years. With his art he creates a world of illusion and reality that invites the viewer to look at so-called ordinary objects and situations in a different way.

Fab Ciraolo X Icons as Hipsters Series.

Fab Ciraolo X Icons as Hipsters Series. | Art [Ars] | Scoop.it

Chilean artist has created a series which has quickly picked up swift popularity in which he has recreated popular icons as hipsters.

Leah Broon's insight:

Ciraola’s artwork combines reconstructed elements of nostalgic popular figures with funky, modern, sci-fi, psychedelic atmospheres. The paintings are overall peculiar and slightly freakish but the appeal is strong and definitely eye catching.

Clad in Vampire Weekend T-shirts, covered in tattoos, and accessorized with funky ties and denim shorts these revolutionary icons take a quixotic twist of style, and personality.

"To Me You Are A Work of Art" featuring Illustrations by Nicola Formichetti

"To Me You Are A Work of Art" featuring Illustrations by Nicola Formichetti | Art [Ars] | Scoop.it
Doodling is one of the most natural forms of self-expression. It allows the mind to wander, freely,...
Leah Broon's insight:

Nicola Formichetti and Mugler combines lens with pen in a special online editorial.

"The shoot is a Nicopanda and Mugler mash-up," Formchetti explains. "I do these illustrations for my brand Nicopanda and come up with new characters everyday. This one's called "Chetti" and it's an amoeba-panda! It's a virus affecting the Mugler world, I wanted to do a shoot where Mugler and Nicopanda got mixed up, two completely different worlds living in the same dimension."

Jean-Michel Basquiat: An Intimate Portrait. An exhibition capturing the friendship between artists Nicholas Taylor and Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1979.

Leah Broon's insight:

This exhibit provides a close look at the friendship between artists Nicholas Taylor and Jean-Michel Basquiat and the counterculture scene in New York City in 1979.

As photographed by Taylor, these striking images of a 19-year-old Basquiat capture his emotions and personality, which reflect his struggle for fame and respect.

The accompanying text panels contextualize the historical significance of Basquiat in the early '80s.
