KOWLOON - Second Life

KOWLOON - Second Life | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it

Photographer Tessa Zalivstok

Of all the sims recreating RL places, none is more authentic than Kowloon. The grime, the neon, almost even the rats.
We know. For 7 years Tessa lived 100 yards from scenes just like this. Even the dishes on the restaurant menus are authentic. OK we will have a couple of minor quibbles. For example the sign to Tessa's right, 九龍飯店 would be fine in most of china - we Honkies prefer 九龍酒店. But we quibble. Brilliant stuff!

MECHANISMUS and Black & White - Berg by Nordan Art, Nordan om Jorden - Second Life - Ziki Questi | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it
On display at Berg by Nordan Art, curated by Kate Bergdorf, is a pair of installations: MECHANISMUS by Igor Ballyhoo, located on the ground level, and Black & White by Imani Nayar, installed in the intimate overhead gallery. The former, in keeping with Igor's frequent style, is massive and filled with disturbing imagery. Visitors arrive at the base of a towering edifice, and are invited to climb seemingly endless flights of stairs up to a high circular platform.

Calling story writers and tellers in Second Life

Calling story writers and tellers in Second Life | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it

One of our other recent introductions at the Park has been Stories at the Park, which is run in partnership with Seanchai Library. Each month, writers and storytellers are invited to visit the park and select pieces of art featured in our current Art at the Park series and write either a 100-word work of fiction (referred to as a “drabble”) or a 100-word poem about each piece, which can then be read live in Voice, either by the author or by a member of the Seanchai team, during Stories at the Park events. The next Stories at the Park event will take place on Sunday, June 5th. If you fancy you hand at writing a story (or two or three…:) ), or a mix of stories and poems, and would like either to read them yourself at Stories at the Park, or have a member of the Seanchai Library team read them, please contact either myself or Caledonia Skytower in-world as soon as possible.

Echt Virtuell: Raglan Shire Art Walk 2016 - Second life

Echt Virtuell: Raglan Shire Art Walk 2016 - Second life | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it
Vom 15.

Mechanismus by Igor Ballyhoo - Berg by Nordan Art - Second Life - rezatar | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it
Mechanismus is part of a double exhibition at Nordan om Jorden. The other part exists of photographs by Imani Nayar. I focus on the Mechanismus exhibition in this blog. The information I provide partly is from the creator himself, because he made an extensive description of how this installation has to be seen and explained. So no freedom for all those arty people that like to mesmerize about deeper meanings and touching ‘art’ in SL, just a clear description of what it is. As far as I can recall Igor Ballyhoo never calls himself an artist anyway, but a builder. I quite like that, because art in SL I will keep seeing as a pretentious and overrated term for most of the art in SL. Keep it real and modest when not that much art is present in the object you want the world to see and admire. That being said I will continue with the description I received. The text below is an exact and unrevised copy of the text on the presented notecard: MECHANISMUS is a metaphorical story about symbiosis of human and technology from the beginning of both entities till the present day. It is built of …

Mistero Hifeng at The Living Room at Lagrange Spaceport., Lagrange Point - Second Life - Ziki Questi | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it
Now open at The Living Room is an exhibition of works by Mistero Hifeng, whose distinctive art pieces are immediately recognizable through their unique style and composition. The works on display — usually human figures whose forms are stretched or dramatically shattered — are numerous, covering several floors of the gallery space.
Given the spatial limitations, artworks sometimes collide in one's light of sight, but Mistero has done an admirable (and often playful) job of arranging the various sculptures, incorporating the gallery's architecture and furnishings in his layout. The Living Room is curated by Daallee, Owl (Owl Dragonash) and Nora Elfm, with space contributed by Hippie Bowman, who owns the sim (Lagrange Point Spaceport) on which the gallery resides; contributions may be left at the landing point. The exhibition will continue until May 31, and several related music events will take place before then — see Owl's blog, Through Owl's eyes…, for details.

Division Street / Divided Path: Cherry Manga returns to Split Screen with "The Path" - Second Life

Division Street / Divided Path: Cherry Manga returns to Split Screen with "The Path" - Second Life | Art & Culture in Second Life - art Exhibitions, Literature, Groups & more | Scoop.it
In November 2014, when the sim Mysterious Wave closed, Cherry Manga stopped building in Second Life and focused her energies on FrancoGrid, one of the many alternative virtual worlds based on OpenSim (where the sims are cheaper and the prims are more). Happily, she accepted my invitation to return in order to build at Split Screen (where she had created Danse Macabre in late 2012). The Path, her first installation in Second Life in 1½ years, is now open. The Path's goal is to give a small foretaste of Cherry's contribution to Fest'Avi 2016, a multi-artist event covering nine sims in FrancoGrid, opening on 7 September. Cherry writes of The Path that "The idea is to show visitors the spirit of the concept developed in FrancoGrid, with this moving line, representing the path of life, the inner travel that we all go through during our life." When you when you arrive at the landing point at Split Screen, pick up the free "Line of Light" avatar and the sculpture (also called "The Path"), and then take the teleport to the installation. Take a seat to be slowly guided around the build. Look closely as there is a bit more than might first meet the eye.
