Arrow: 10 Huge Things We Learned From The New Trailer

Arrow: 10 Huge Things We Learned From The New Trailer | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
As the May sweeps ratings period for American television approaches, shows on network and cable alike are beginning to amp up the action for their finale runs. The CW’s Arrow is no exception, and archer extraordinaire Oliver Queen’s conflict with Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Assassins is finally beginning to heat up in a very definite way.

Now in its third season, Arrow has had its share of ups and downs as of late. While the series this year has turned in some breathtaking standalones as well as a few fantastically frustrating cliffhangers, far too many episodes have felt more like forgettable filler than must-see-tv worth discussing around the water cooler.

As such, fans have been less enthusiastic about the upcoming finale arc than they might have been in years past.

Fortunately for those fans, The CW has released a mind-blowing trailer for the final five episodes of the season that promises phenomenal twists and game-changing turns. Although less than 90 seconds long, the trailer provided plenty of information to tide viewers over during the show’s current mini-hiatus and set off a social media explosion from which the Arrow fandom has not yet entirely recovered.

So, take a deep breath, tear yourself away from the replay button, avert your eyes from those gifs, and take a look at a breakdown of 10 huge things that we learned about the end of the third season from the new trailer.

How Superhero Costumes Are Made

How Superhero Costumes Are Made | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
There's no avoiding superheroes these days, with a "Supergirl" pilot in production at CBS, monster trailers for the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron" blowing up our Twitter feeds and next summer's "Suicide Squad" — which has cast mega-model Cara Delevingne as the evil Enchantress, and woefully deprived us of Jared Leto's long, ombre hair — on the way. That's not to mention current running ABC series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and the CW's "The Flash" and "Arrow."

And while what some superheroes aren't wearing might be an image to linger on for a bit (ahem, Oliver Queen's abs), what these icons are wearing requires a great deal of coordination, creativity and technical skill.

"It’s an amazing, broad and complex experience," Oscar nominee Michael Wilkinson, the costume designer behind "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," says. In addition to the director and costume design team, illustrators, production designers, visual effects artists, stunt teams, fabric specialists and speciality costume manufacturers are all involved in building a suit. "It is a massive collaboration," says Alexandra Byrne, the Oscar-winning costume designer for "Thor," "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the "Avengers" series of films.

The Flash: Mark Hamill Discusses Returning as the Trickster - IGN

The Flash: Mark Hamill Discusses Returning as the Trickster - IGN | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
The Trickster is back! The maniacal neon unitard-wearing character, played by none other than Mark Hamill, appeared in the 1990 TV version of The Flash, and Hamill's returned to the role for the current version of the series on the CW. He'll appear in Tuesday's episode, appropriately titled "Trickster." Hamill's James Jesse is in Iron Heights, and Barry and Joe turn to him for assistance when a copycat villain also calling himself the Trickster (Devon Graye) threatens Central City. IGN was among a group of reporters who spoke with Hamill and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg about the return of the Trickster.Hamill has been watching this version of The Flash since the start. He said, "My daughter Chelsea is a big fan, and I watched it from the very first episode. In fact, I even thought, since they were doing Mirror Master and Weather Wizard and various other Rogues’ Gallery characters, I wonder if they’re going to do the Trickster. And then I got a call from my business people saying, 'They want you to do something on The Flash.' And I was thinking [I would be] like a colleague of John Wesley Shipp's, a professor, something age-appropriate -- I'm not getting back in that one-piece jumpsuit, spandex deal. So I said, 'Well, who do they want me to play?' And they said, 'The Trickster.' I just couldn’t believe it, because I couldn't figure out how that could be, unless it’s some kind of weird time travel episode. I don’t know.

All right y'all, I know it's rotten, but isn't it funny how some celebrities age and get even hotter... and some turn into monsters? Mark Hamill was such a good looking guy in Star Wars and now... he looks like someone I'd sleep with by accident. It's cool though, since I doubt he hangs out in my town. Additionally, he scores extra cool points for being the Trickster twice, --first in the TV version of The Flash from 1990, and now he gets to play the villain again.

Irony, he sort of looks like a villain, --that might just be lighting and the weird pose he's in though... Not too many old guys hang out sitting with their legs crossed like that. Not sane ones anyway. Check him out in the preview video on the source page. He looks completely wacked out of his gourd. Love it!

Arrow's Stephen Amell, The Flash's Andrew Kreisberg Dish On the Spinoff Series

Arrow's Stephen Amell, The Flash's Andrew Kreisberg Dish On the Spinoff Series | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
With members of The CW's Arrow and The Flash production teams floating between conventions this weekend, there's plenty of talk going around about the series, the future of the CWverse (since they're currently shooting season finales) and, of course, the planned spinoff that will feature The Atom, Firestorm, Rip Hunter, Hawkgirl and more.

Both Arrow star Stephen Amell and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg were quizzed on the upcoming series, with Amell giving a few concrete details while Kreisberg stuck mostly to generalities.

"I would imagine that I will be appearing on all three shows," said Amell during a panel at Fan Expo Canada. "I would imagine that we will be sprinkling characters in. I know that there's a plan for one character who originated on Arrow and is not one of the main characters on the new spinoff to sort of hover between all three shows and that will be their job, so to speak. So you'll see a lot of interconnectivity next year."

48 Reasons John Barrowman Is The Greatest 'Arrow' Villain Of Them All

48 Reasons John Barrowman Is The Greatest 'Arrow' Villain Of Them All | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
Malcolm Merlyn, we salute you!

Merlyn, sometimes known as the Dark Archer, is easily the best bad guy on “Arrow,” and that’s saying a lot, given all the fantastic foes who have crossed swords and tossed arrows in Oliver Queen’s direction over the past three seasons. But all the Deadshots and Deathstrokes in the world can’t match Malcolm Merlyn in terms of sheer awesomeness — and here’s why:

  1. Let’s start with the obvious: Malcolm Merlyn is a bad dude.

  2. But he isn’t always a bad dude.

'Arrow' Season 4 Tables Deadshot, Suicide Squad Off-Limits?

'Arrow' Season 4 Tables Deadshot, Suicide Squad Off-Limits? | ARROWTV | Scoop.it
Arrow’s most recent Suicide Squad venture seemingly set up a larger team presence in the CW super-drama’s fourth season outing this fall, but DC may have taken Task Force X off the table. At least one fan-favorite Suicide Squad character may not return to Arrow in the near future, and he may have taken the team with him.

Take this one with a measure of salt for the moment, and mind any potential spoilers for Arrow’s most recent “Suicidal Tendencies” or Seasons 3 and 4, but executive producer Marc Guggenheim offered a surprisingly candid response over Michael Rowe’s potential return as Floyd “Deadshot” Lawton. The character had seemingly been blown to bits with Wednesday’s episode, but when asked over Tumblr if a bit of comic book magic might see the character return as a Season 4 regular, Guggenheim stated:

Unfortunately, Deadshot is off the table for the nonce.

Don't you love it when people who know nothing about comic books ....write about comic books? I'm not one of those comic book elite nerdy geniuses, a la Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons --but come on. Deathbolt was like, a blip in the DC Comics universe; he rarely interacts with anyone important, he's defeated pretty succinctly, returns once, and not even for a really big plot... he tries to kill Starman.

Big surprise, Starman was not killed by Deathbolt, he was killed by the Mist. So yeah... Deathbolt was not a "supervillain" --he was a minor villain, who was literally so unimportant, that there isn't even really an established full story about where he ends up. He just fails to kill Starman and then goes back to being an obscure, low rent metahuman nobody. Presumably, he gets a job at Taco Bell with Wonder Woman as his shift supervisor, constantly on his ass about cleaning the slushy machines. Don't get me wrong, it's still going to be suuuuper cool to finally see someone with "powers" on Arrow --but let's not get things twisted here.
