I never confuse education with School. What is described in the infographic is School which can be subsumed under the broader rubric of education. The other key point is we should never confuse neo-liberal economic goals to be the same as educational goals. They might be the same as School goals which again can be subsumed under the broader rubric. We are not creating something. We are educating humans. There is a difference.

There are good points made. Libraries do not look like they did 20 years ago and that meets children's needs in new ways. What is sad is some schools are limiting library usage by doing away with librarians and teacher-librarians. That is very short-sighted.

Teaching Reading Comprehension and Comprehension Strategies

Teaching Reading Comprehension and Comprehension Strategies | Around L-ICT | Scoop.it
Teacher question: In terms of teaching comprehension to grade 3-5 students, what is the best way to help the readers transfer the strategies they are taught so they can be independent, self-regulated readers? Shanahan's response:  If you want to teach reading comprehension strategies to on-grade level students between the ages of 8-10, we have a pretty good idea of how to do that successfully. The teaching of strategies is a good focus as well, given the large amount of research showing that strategy instruction can be beneficial.

The opening paragraph is spot on. I taught kindergarten for two days and it was perpetual 20 questions. Teaching is about using the strengths students have and nurturing them. One of those is asking questions.
