First-time Tech Entrepreneur - What it's like to pitch in Silicon Valley

First-time Tech Entrepreneur - What it's like to pitch in Silicon Valley | Social Media B2B Marketing | Scoop.it

I'm writing this week from the University Cafe in downtown Palo Alto.

It became famous in The Facebook Effect book as the team's regular hangout when they moved to Palo Alto.

It's an unremarkable cafe, often packed with people like me, in town to try to convince VCs (venture capitalists) to invest in their start-up idea. Looking around I can see 11 other Mac laptops and four guys pitching to a VC over coffee.

The Role of Color in Marketing [Infographics] | Social Media Today

The Role of Color in Marketing [Infographics] | Social Media Today | Social Media B2B Marketing | Scoop.it

Use the right colors to increase brand recognition and drive purchasing.

It’s more important than ever for brands to project their value.Marketers in general understand the need for consistency in color and design. But it’s also vital to move beyond the standard logo and tagline and take a holistic approach to evoking emotions among potential customers across all of your marketing channels — including social media sites. You can use color to your advantage.

Color is a form of non-verbal communication and an important part of our daily lives. The underlying emotions that colors evoke have been cultivated since birth and vary depending on age, geographic location, and gender (e.g. blue for boys, pink for girls). Color affects our moods and feelings, and research suggests that it has a physical effect as well, influencing the hormones that control our emotions. Applying color theory is one of the most powerful methods of creating customer appeal.

Why do you feel like clicking and browsing on some websites and not others? What makes you feel like purchasing from one online merchant vs. another? Could it be because of your emotional responses to their color palettes? Choosing the right color scheme is crucial to how your brand is viewed.

Studies have shown that color:

Increases brand recognition by up to 80%Improves readership as much as 40%Increases comprehension by 73%Can be up to 85% of the reason people decide to buy

Clash of the Titans - the battle to organize the Web's content

Clash of the Titans - the battle to organize the Web's content | Social Media B2B Marketing | Scoop.it

Curation is an irreplaceable part of the new content consumption and knowledge-sharing cycle just as passive readers are becoming an irreplaceable part of the curation cycle. This union is the ideal environment for smart, immensely valuable, and educational content on the web to proliferate and spread like wildfire, which ultimately what we want. A smarter world is a better world.

As Google shuts down Google Reader, Flipboard introduces user curation to its App and we see our own Read.it App being immeditately picked up and featured by Apple upon launch, we can definitely say content aggregation is losing battles against social curation in the fight between robots/algorithms and people to organize the Web's content.

I'm getting a rather inflated, bloated, pop-worthy vision of the self-importance all our commenting leads us to each day now. I'm thinking I'm going to start wearing hats again... with a big hatpin... just in case I need to burst someone's self-inflated ego bubble lest they go pop on their own in a maniacal commenting frenzy. Hey! Sorry! That's just where all the tangenting eventually leads me, lol. Uhhh... to the point where my brain can grasp only a little lol... And to think... I used to be sooooo enthralled with "the meeting of the minds" when I sat down with my favorite authors... to read them... and I heard only their voice speaking directly to me. Nowadays, it seems I can't get a thought in edgewise, much less a personally acknowledged comments, with the author I use to have all to myself. Kinda takes the fun out of the old one-on-one author-reader mind-melds we use to have.

Social Media Marketing in the B2B Arena Still Needs Improvement [Infographic] | Business 2 Community

Social Media Marketing in the B2B Arena Still Needs Improvement [Infographic] | Business 2 Community | Social Media B2B Marketing | Scoop.it

We’re well aware of the highs and lows of B2B social media marketing, given  that that is what we do ourselves, so a new report showing how companies are  faring piqued our interest.

B2B Marketing have released this interesting infographic  (below), based on findings from their Social Media Benchmarking Report. It shows that social media  is still a maturing channel for marketing in the B2B world, but there are still  many areas of improvement to be had..

When it comes to social strategy, it seems that B2B companies haven’t quite  got the hang of planning their social marketing; only 38% said they had a defined strategy,  with a huge 61% saying it was ‘ad-hoc’. They do, however, largely think that  social media is important or at least of some importance, so that’s a step in  the right direction.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Twitter was the most popular platform, with 85% of  respondents using it for their marketing. Facebook was only fourth most popular,  after LinkedIn and YouTube, with Google+ lagging behind in last place.

But it’s not all bad for Google+, as 29% of those surveyed said they though  that in 12 months the platform would be the most useful channel, compared to  just 9% saying it was so right now.
