How Employee Recognition Affects Customer Experience

How Employee Recognition Affects Customer Experience | Arkansas Construction: General Contractor | Scoop.it
Construction Network's insight:
How Employee Recognition Affects Customer ExperienceView the Original Article Here: http://www.buzztimebusiness.com/employee-recognition-affects-customer-experience ;

There is a very good reason you never hear about an Oscar acceptance speech consisting of “I don’t need to thank anybody. This was all me, y’all. “ In just about every situation it’s the ‘little people’ who determine success or failure. Nobody does it alone.

In the bar and restaurant industry that means your front-line employees. And the way to get the most out of those positions is to facilitate their feeling a sense of emotional connection to ownership, management and the overall goals of your business. One of the ways to ensure this happens is recognition.

By engaging associates and encouraging them to be passionate about their work, you are establishing a system of ownership. They feel as if they have a larger stake in your business’ success and will strive to perform their best. By cultivating a culture in which your associates feel appreciated, you promote a positive atmosphere not only for employees, but customers as well. Engaged employees are critical in the customer experience and as you are well aware, satisfied customers have the potential of becoming loyal customers.

So, how can you reinforce company culture and drive results? There are simple, yet effective ways to recognize your employees and boost morale.

Reinforce good behavior by rewarding employees. “The Forum: Business Results Through People” found adirect relationship between employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction and loyalty. By motivating and rewarding achievement, you provide incentive for employees to go above and beyond. This not only fosters improvement in communication between employees and management, but also between employees and customers.  Recognition can be formal or informal, whether it be a simple pat on the back or a tangible reward like a gift card to their favorite store (this shows you know your employees on a more personal level).

Another strategy to recognize employees would be the implementation of an “Employee of the Month” system. Texas Roadhouse provides an exemplary example of how rewarding and inspiring employees is a promising way to create relationships between employees and customers.

Each month, based on performance evaluation or another type of evaluation, you could have your bartender create a beverage named after him or herself that will be promoted at a discounted price, in their honor.  If it is a server, a menu item of the day could be devoted to the particular server. This provides an opportunity for your employee to feel special, while encouraging an increase in drinks or food purchased.  In addition, small pins or stickers that convey this accomplishment can be affixed to the employees name badge.  This reinforces behavior after the event, provides incentive for other employees, and showcases the employee’s talent and dedication to customers.

All and all, employee recognition will generate an atmosphere in which your customers can enjoy. If your employees exude a positive attitude, your customers will take notice and will enjoy their experience as well. Loyal customers generate consistent revenue for your business. This is a fact that you cannot afford to ignore. If your employees are happy, they will make it a priority to ensure the same fate for their customers.

Tracking Gov. Mike Beebe's Billion-Dollar Mystery Project

So the hunt begins. What is the mystery project Gov. Mike Beebe hinted at in his State of the State Address today?

People are saying very little beyond the governor's remarks. Beebe's spokesman, Matt DeCample, declined to provide any other details to the Arkansas Times, saying, "Believe me, if we had more details to release, they would have been in the speech." He also declined Arkansas Business' request for more on the matter.

Meanwhile, our own Mark Carter reached to out to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. He didn't get much more than the Times, but Joe Holmes did say this in an email:

It's a large project we've been working on for some time but we are not quite to a point to talk about the details or name. I can tell you it's a billion dollar plus investment and we feel positive we are close to it being announced.

Springdale Church, Area of Little Rock Earn American Institute Of Architecture Awards

Faculty and staff of the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas designed a pair of buildings that have been recognized by the American Institute of Architects.

The St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Springdale, designed by Fayetteville-based Marlon Blackwell Architect, won an Honor Award for Architecture, one of 11 awarded. Blackwell, Distinguished Professor and head of the architecture department at the UA, won his second AIA Honor Award.

An Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design was awarded to “Rock Street Pocket Housing,” a design by the University of Arkansas Community Design Center, an outreach program of the Fay Jones School. It was one of eight awarded. Fifth-year architecture students collaborated with staff on this project. This is the center’s 10th national AIA Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design.

AIA awards are recognized as the highest professional honors for architecture, urban design and interior design. The St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church and the Rock Street project were among 28 AIA awards granted this year. They were chosen from more than 700 submissions.

The St. Nicholas project, visible from Interstate 540, began as a metal shop building and was transformed into a sanctuary and fellowship hall. It’s features include a sky-lit tower that “pours red light down into the transition between the narthex and the sanctuary, giving worshippers a moment of pause before entering.” Also featured is a cross suspended on the western side of the tower which is backlit by the sun and the exterior of the building is made from box rib metal panels, common in local industrial buildings, while the interior finishes are kept simple.

New One Bank CEO Jerry Pavlas Rebuilds Brand, Braces for 'More Bad News'

Regulatory-mandated changes have ushered in a blend of the old and the new at Little Rock’s One Bank & Trust, and the new CEO warns of “more bad news” to come.

Bank officials reached out to Johnelle Hunt whose suggestion provided a new addition to the board of directors for the $454.4 million-asset lender.

The ouster of Layton “Scooter” Stuart as chairman, president and CEO in September opened the door for more involvement by Hunt, the trucking heiress whose family owned a controlling stake in One Bank 20 years ago.

“She hasn’t made any decisions,” said Ken Shemin, a Rogers lawyer representing Johnelle Hunt. “She’s waiting and watching. She’s hopeful Scooter Stuart will be able to work out his problems with the regulators and put together a plan to move forward.”

One Bank has already gained a new top executive and an existing director was tapped as the new chairman of the board after third-quarter 2012 action against Stuart by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
