Some parents of deaf or hard of hearing scout out new locations before they move to assure that their children will be able to get the special care they need. Now that there are many progressive laws in place to help assist those with special needs this is not as big of a problem that its has been in the past.

 

In fact any public school and even private schools that receive public funding must provide interpreters for students that need language services. This means that which school your child attends does not make near as much difference as it has in the past and opens up many new options for parents and students alike. Finding a great school is easier now than it has ever been in the past especially for those who have children with special needs.

Interpreting in the Legal Setting, an Attorney’s Perspective


The workshop will focus primarily on interpreting in the criminal law setting. The presenter will walk the participants through the process from the inception of a criminal case through its conclusion. The presenter will discuss the most relevant aspects of criminal law including the goals involved in client contact, consultations with various expert witnesses (psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors, eye witness identification experts, etc), motions to suppress/preclude, changes of plea and sentencing. Collateral matters such as the role of Child Protective Services and the Juvenile Court for dependency/delinquency will be discussed as will alternative dispositions such as diversion. The role of the Judge, the defense attorney and prosecutor will be addressed.
