Dementia causes hallucinations for all 5 senses. Even though seeing things is what is thought to happen most often. Not everyone with dementia has these effects though.
How often hallucinations occur depends on the mental stability. They can be short lasting or long lasting. If they are long lasting then the person will need more detailed treatment. Even mentally fit people hallucinate at a given point in their life. However, these people can distinguish what is real and what is not.
