Thermal imaging can be used to document heat/AC leaks from insulation gaps on a building's facade, reveal warmer ground water inflows (either fresh or chemical-laden) or "thermal pollution" from industrial processes entering ocean-temperature waterbodies, as well as identify areas on the human body experiencing infection or stress (includes epidemiological applications).

HSB RGB Arduino Color Library tutorial | Arduino progz | Scoop.it

Screens speak of color in terms of 3 channels: Red, Green and Blue. Humans tend to think of colors in 3 channels too, but the channels that seem more natural usually are Hue, Saturation and Brightness. Here is an arduino color library so you too can specify colors by their hue! We use this code in our RGB Rainbow Sun and HSB RGB Sketcher. If you need help learning how to install libraries in arduino check out this thorough Adafruit tutorial. We use this library to draw colors on LCD screens, for example see the HSB RGB Sketcher Tutorial and onto RGB LEDs in the Sun Kit.

BrickPi: LEGO® Bricks with a Raspberry Pi Brain

BrickPi is a system that converts Raspberry Pi into a robot.  The project is a board and case that connects LEGO® Mindstorms Sensors, motors, and parts to turn your credit card size computer into a robot.  The BrickPi allows you to connect up to 3 NXT Motors and 4 Sensors.  It has a 9V battery power source that powers the motors, sensors, and Raspberry Pi, un-tethering the Pi from the wall.  Finally, it has a sturdy case with holes that snap with LEGO parts.The brains of a Raspberry Pi joined with the LEGO building system.

Easy Pulse sensor has been revised and the new version (Version 1.1) has many improvements over its predecessor. The Easy Pulse Version 1.1 uses transmission mode PPG probe (HRM-2511E) sensor that fits on finger tip and yields more stable readings. The new Easy Pulse sensor provides both analog PPG and digital pulse outputs. Now you don't have to worry about soldering as the board comes assembled and tested. The new Easy Pulse looks like this.

As I mentioned earlier this week, I recently “lost” an ATmega168 due to flashing the configuration fuses to disable the RESET pin, without realizing that this makes the device impossible to reflash with SPI. This is particularly frustrating because the device is still 100% functional, just completely deaf to ordinary serial programmers. The only way to recover the device is using what Atmel calls “High Voltage Parallel Programming Mode” which very few programmers support, most importantly, not the USBtinyISP I otherwise love.

There are plenty of Arduino-based robots in the world, but actually building one is a bit tough if you're not familiar with Arduino programming. But a company called ArcBotics has created an Arduino-based robot called "Sparki" that can be used—and programmed—by anyone. You don't have to assemble it yourself; the little plastic robot will be ready to go out of the box with an included remote control. To let users create additional functionality, ArcBotics is preparing programming samples and tutorials for controlling the robot's sensors and actuators.

It's a follow up to the Arno board for those that prefer to work with a shield.  When you've completed all the projects that are in the included book, you can pop the shield off your Arduino compatible board and start building your project.  

It's also a great way to test out your project ideas without setting up a breadboard.  Sometimes you just need an LED or two and a button to interact with your sketch. Plug in the Arno Shield and you're ready to go.
