Home automation. For your Enterprise-class starship. | Raspberry Pi

This is a work-in-progress from Ludwig Boltzmann. And we love it. Ludwig says he will upload his code to Github when he’s satisfied it’s properly polished, but we liked what we saw in this video at this unfinished stage so much that we wanted to show it to you now.

Arduino-powered Etch-a-Sketch clock - Boing Boing

Arduino-powered Etch-a-Sketch clock - Boing Boing | Arduino, Netduino, Rasperry Pi! | Scoop.it

Dodgey99 built an Arduino-powered Etch-a-Sketch clock, in which a pair of stepper motors painstakingly draw out the current time. It's got a very low refresh rate, though: the limits of the motors and the Etch-a-Sketch means that it takes more than a minute to display the time, and it needs a couple of minutes' rest between each number. There's a plan to accelerate things with some beefier motors.

Automated home brewing | Raspberry Pi

Automated home brewing | Raspberry Pi | Arduino, Netduino, Rasperry Pi! | Scoop.it

The office conversation this lunchtime went a bit like this:

Me: “Two beer posts in a week is too much, isn’t it.”
Ben: “Maybe.”
Me: “OK. Damn shame: I’ve been sent a great automated brewing project; it’s way more complicated than the ones I’ve seen before. I’ll maybe put it up next week, after the new website goes live.”
James: “Can you send it to me now please? I’d love to read that. I want to update my system at home.”
Gordon: “Me too, please.”
Laura: “Can I see it?”
Clive: “That sounds brilliant.”
Eben: “Mmm. Beer.”
Lance: “Did someone say beer?”
Emma: “Do you have a link I can see?”
Me“OK. I’ll POST ABOUT IT TODAY.”

Arduino: Getting to Know Arduino : Part 1 : Hel... | element14

...recorded a video to introduce the Arduino Uno and how to get started with it. The premise was that you didn't need to add anything extra, except for an A to B USB cable (always check the type you need for the Arduino you have) because although you can connect an external power supply it can be powered purely from the USB, and you could get code running with a few simple steps on Microsoft Windows to make an LED (Light Emitting Diode) start to flash on your board...
