Lack of support blamed for keeping the industry from getting started

Raven Blair's curator insight, January 12, 9:43 AM

Geothermal industry has been stalled in Canada due to lack of political support. The provincial government is trying to get a hydroelectric project instead of launching geothermal. Even though Canada still has many resources, such as coal, oil, gas, and hydro, it is human nature to not want to build something else when everything is already working properly and giving enough sustainability.

morgan knight's curator insight, January 12, 10:03 AM

In this article, Thompson points out that techniques and technology have advanced the practice of geothermal energy, yet it has not advanced to Canada. Canada's industry is comprised of almost every primary sector jobs, except geothermal energy. I believe that both companies and Canada's government should start drilling sites and use the resource they have, instead of wasting time on other industries that will lose popularity within 10 years.

Cameron Driggers's curator insight, January 12, 10:03 AM

As usual, most people are still anxious to save the planet from pollution and attempt to slow or stop global warming. Leaders are trying to get themselves organized enough to start harnessing renewable energy using the resources that they have.  One energy source is that of geothermal energy. According to www.theglobeandmail.com , "geothermal energy has taken hold in two dozen countries all over the world". Canada, however,is not included in this group of nations. The peculiar thing about this is that Canada has many geothermal resources, particularly in the West. A lack of support from government policy(ies) has been blamed for preventing the founding of the industry.
