A Desert Oasis by assemblageSTUDIO

A Desert Oasis by assemblageSTUDIO | Architecture | Scoop.it

There are two ways to live with Las Vegas’ harsh climate. The first, epitomized by the hermetically-sealed tract houses ringing the Strip, rejects the reality of the desert in favor of air conditioning and architecture evoking far-off places.

The second strategy embraces the environment for what it is, and looks to the natural world for cues about how to adapt. In their tresARCA house, assemblageSTUDIO took the latter approach. Glass and granite punctuated by a folded steel screen surrounding the second-floor bedrooms, tresARCA’s facade is a meditation on the resilience of the desert landscape.

Innovative, Sculptural and Enduring Desert Architecture

Innovative, Sculptural and Enduring Desert Architecture | Architecture | Scoop.it

Apart from the soft breeze, the desert air is soundless. Cactus adorn the otherwise arid, gently undulating landscapes, where sculptural architecture rises from rock formations. It’s the barren land of the world’s deserts that equally lend creative inspiration and challenges for the structures built on them, as they must battle harsh temperatures, dust storms, monsoons and erosion. A few architects have used these challenges to their advantage, to innovate, to create radical pieces of architecture on the dry, rigid terrain.

Four Environmental Innovations that have Revolutionized Architecture

Four Environmental Innovations that have Revolutionized Architecture | Architecture | Scoop.it
The green revolution has impacted almost every sector of the economy. Now, eco-friendly technology is revolutionizing the way we think about architecture. Every part of the architectural process is undergoing huge changes.
When people think of green architecture, they often picture simple modifications, such as the substitution of environmentally friendly materials for less sustainable ones. While this can certainly be a viable means of reducing a project’s carbon footprint, it is by no means the only way to make a positive impact. Often, the best green projects are the ones that go above and beyond, completely altering the way people think of architecture as a whole. The following are just a few of the spectacular developments taking place in architecture today.

This idea is pretty cool. With all the pollution we have in the world today we need to start replanting the trees and plants we have tore down. Especially since more people are wanting to live in the big cities making the cities larger decreasing on our natural environment.

Hideg House by Béres Architects | Architecture | Scoop.it

Focusing on sculptural cliffs and hillside woods, Hideg-ház is an unusual object in the landscape of the outskirts of Koszeg, a historical town in Hungary.

The building is located in a country with very diverse climate. Hot summers and cold winters desire a smart mix of architectural decisions to keep the cabin comfortable and easy to run in all four seasons. The clients had a clear concept about what they wanted to achieve in terms of building services and comfort. A combination of high-tec and simple ecological solutions resulted in extremely low energy consumption and moderate building cost...

A Backyard does not need to be all green, look at how carefully placed rocks can create a stunning backdrop and provide contrast on a different scale for this unique home that takes advantage of all this with carefully place windows, even using the direction the timber is laid to highlight the view.
