Interview with LUXIGON - Architectural Visualization Studio in France

Interview with LUXIGON - Architectural Visualization Studio in France | Architectural renderings and digital architecture | Scoop.it

The interview with MIR I published almost a month ago, followed by great feedback from the community, has driven me to keep exploring the studios I consider interesting and inspirational. LUXIGON is one of these studios, featuring clients such REX, MVRDV, OMA, BIG, Oppenheim, Mecanoo, asymptote, and more in their portfolio. I enjoyed this interview very much, and fell in love with their sense of humor and passion for what they do as I’m sure you will too – I’ll just have to keep doing these. ITS GREAT!

Parametric Housing

Architecture Redefined

All throughout history people have attempted to redefine the basic meaning of life. How do you design for the future? What is the future of housing? When looking back on history, pre-fabrication became a popular process of mass production of similar units that could be easily assembled. This process was invented during the industrial revolution when it became crucial for guns to have inter-changeable parts. Now, in an era of mass customization what does being pre-fabricated really mean?

In the past, machine like processing has always had a direct correlation to human musculature, and making things easier and quicker to build. Could a machine be based on conscience instead of muscle… like a computer science program?

Changing the role of the architect is a possibility as well; instead of an architect designing a specific building, the architect develops the interface for people to interact with. This design machine creates a constraint and a new born freedom. The design machine becomes the interface system with which home owners can customize a home without an architect by their side.

Growing a Hidden Architecture

Growing a Hidden Architecture | Architectural renderings and digital architecture | Scoop.it

Growing a Hidden Architecture, Christian Kerrigan

‘This project explores the possibilities of a symbiotic relationship between two different systems of organization, technology and nature. The technology is designed to theoretically alter newly planted trees in the last remaining Yew forest- Kingley Vale.

By controlling the manipulation of refined armatures, calibrating devices and designed corsets; the system is capable of controlling the growth of a ship inside the forest. The ship will grow over a period of two hundred years and will exist as a hidden architecture inside the trees.

The ship growing in the forest is the ship from the ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, a tale of man’s relationship to mortality. For the evolution to last without human intervention, the artificial system harvests resin from the trees to measure time passing. The hourglass is designed to a volume of two hundred years, as the resin passes from the tree the clock slowly fills.

Ultimately the hourglass volume is filled, jamming the clock signally the completion of the system. The project demonstrates by creating this architecture within the trees the artificial system itself extends new possibilities into the relationship between technology and nature.
