iOS Apps to Support Learners Who Struggle with Reading and/or Writing – Updated Annotated List | Free Resources from the Net for EVERY Learner

iOS Apps to Support Learners Who Struggle with Reading and/or Writing – Updated Annotated List | Free Resources from the Net for EVERY Learner | ArchIndy Tech Integration | Scoop.it

Paul Hamilton, blogger of Free Resources on the Net for Every Learner, provides an updated list of apps to support learners who struggle with reading and writing. Many are familiar and favorites of mine as well as a few new that I might be using a different app for. All in all it is a great updated list to check on what else might be out there to support struggling learners.

Check out Paul Hamiliton's list, are these tools in your OT or Education m/iTool Kit?

Game Based Learning: Planet Oit! | ArchIndy Tech Integration | Scoop.it

This is an online adventure game in which players prospect for minerals on a virtual geologically realistic world. This game teaches students how to find minerals given rocks and outcrops in a plausible (but not real) geologic setting. It will motivate most students to play it without outside encouragement for hours as the world is fun to explore and the scoring system encourages them to keep moving. Finally, it emphasizes the use of different kinds of tests for mineral identification.

Web Tool: On-A-Slant Virtual Village Reconstruction Project

Web Tool: On-A-Slant Virtual Village Reconstruction Project | ArchIndy Tech Integration | Scoop.it

North Dakota State University Archeology Technologies Laboratory (ATL) has reconstructed the On-A-Slant Mandan Village using Virtual Reality technology. The On-A-Slant Virtual Village was modeled based on scholarly research of the site, the Native population, and the era. The Virtual Village is as historically accurate as the documentation allows. The slice of time presented to viewers is ca. 1776, five years before the village's abandonment in 1781. Archaeology is the discipline that provides us with a conduit, of sorts, to the past. It is the means by which our society reconnects with its heritage. Archaeologists, however, can only dream of time travel. While time travel is currently impossible in reality, it is possible and plausible in virtual reality. The ATL at NDSU has the necessary tools and expertise to produce virtual 3D computer reconstructions of the past using a combination of archaeological, historical, and ethnographic records.
