Planning permission has been given to the National Trust for the revamp and expansion of the visitor centre at Housesteads Roman Fort in Northumberland.

The well-preserved remains of the fort and adjoining sections of Hadrian's Wall, together with the nearby civil settlement or vicus and its surrounding halo of Romano-British temples and industrial sites, make Vercovicium perhaps the most interesting place on the entire length of the Wall.
